Job Overview:
In this permanent, part-time position, the Child Support Specialist will work within a case management framework in a refuge setting, providing essential support to children and families experiencing domestic and family violence. The role involves working 68.4 hours per fortnight, with a schedule that includes hours between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm, and a negotiated fortnightly rostered day off. The specialist will ensure that the voices of children and young people are heard, provide holistic case management, and deliver support to vulnerable clients. The position requires a strong understanding of trauma's impact on families, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and emphasizes a child-centered, strengths-based approach to support.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Child Support Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Ensuring the voices of children and young people are heard in all aspects of case management.
  • Providing holistic case management and delivering support to vulnerable and disadvantaged clients.
  • Identifying client strengths, establishing goals for the program, and reviewing client progress towards these goals.
  • Promoting skills that increase health, safety, and development among clients.
  • Enhancing stakeholder relationships and partnerships to provide comprehensive support to clients.
  • Working collaboratively within a small team to deliver best practices for women and children experiencing domestic and family violence.
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation related to client interactions and progress.
  • Participating in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in the field.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess demonstrated experience in case management and a solid understanding of relevant legislation related to domestic and family violence. Previous experience working in a closely related human services context is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families, along with strong report writing, analytical, and evaluation skills, including data collection and analysis. A tertiary qualification in a relevant field is required, or significant experience working in a similar service may be considered in lieu of formal education.
