Job Overview: The Social Work Student Intern will be integrated into the Psychosocial Care Unit (PSCU), which is dedicated to the emotional well-being of international humanitarian workers. The intern's responsibilities will be defined in collaboration with the PSCU Supervisor and the student's university Field Placement Office. Tasks may include direct clinical work, developing educational materials, conducting research, and delivering presentations on relevant topics. This internship is structured for the academic term from September 2026 to May 2027, providing a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful work that supports the mental health of humanitarian workers.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for providing orientation to humanitarian workers regarding their well-being during assignments and their reintegration after returning home. They will develop resource materials aimed at facilitating successful humanitarian assignments and reintegration processes. Additionally, the intern will conduct presentations on stress management and other pertinent topics, engage in research focused on the well-being of humanitarian workers, and compile and analyze data to inform practices and policies within the PSCU.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in a Master of Social Work (MSW) program at an accredited university that has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Psychosocial Care Unit of Doctors Without Borders. Alternatively, students from equivalent master's level programs in Counseling or other Mental Health fields will also be considered. Proficiency in foreign languages, particularly French, Arabic, or Spanish, is considered a valuable asset.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be currently enrolled in a Master of Social Work (MSW) program or an equivalent master's level program in Counseling or Mental Health. This educational background is essential to ensure that the intern possesses the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to the PSCU's mission.
Experience: While specific prior experience may not be mandatory, candidates should demonstrate a foundational understanding of social work principles and practices. Experience in clinical settings, research, or educational roles related to mental health is advantageous and will enhance the intern's ability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position effectively.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of additional languages such as French, Arabic, or Spanish is highly desirable and will be considered a plus in the selection process.
