Job Overview:
The position of UNESCO Consultant for Open Solutions is pivotal in advancing the organization's mission to promote inclusive knowledge sharing and innovation. The consultant will work under the authority of the director-general" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information and will be responsible for operationalizing Open Data activities, enhancing methodologies for Diamond Open Access, and promoting the preservation of source code as digital documentary heritage. The consultant will engage with various stakeholders, including KISTI and other relevant organizations, to refine frameworks, produce reports, and develop guidelines that support the implementation of Open Solutions initiatives. This role requires a strategic approach to enhance digital inclusion and equitable access to information, aligning with UNESCO's core values of commitment, integrity, respect for diversity, and professionalism.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support the operationalization of Open Data activities under the UNESCO-KISTI Collaboration by refining benchmark frameworks, finalizing toolkits, and preparing implementation notes.
• Consolidate and report on Open Data and Diamond Open Access activities, producing summary reports and annual reports.
• Develop methodologies and guidance for enhancing Diamond Open Access in Asia and Africa, including pilot analysis methodologies and implementation notes.
• Facilitate awareness of preserving source code as digital documentary heritage, organizing information-sharing meetings, and finalizing issues papers.
• Prepare presentations and reports for International Open Access Week and other relevant events.
• Support partnership development and stakeholder engagement, mapping fundraising opportunities, and preparing briefing notes on policy and funding.
• Ensure all documents produced are concise and adhere to specified guidelines.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in Natural Sciences, Public Policy, or related fields. They should have a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in scientific research, international cooperation, or related areas. Excellent communication and writing skills are essential, along with the ability to analyze data and synthesize information effectively. Candidates should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills for teamwork in a multicultural environment and have a high attention to detail, with the capacity to work under tight deadlines.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) in Natural Sciences, Public Policy, or related fields is required. A PhD in these areas is desirable and would enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in scientific research, international cooperation, and related fields. Experience working with intergovernmental bodies or development organizations is highly valued, as is familiarity with European Union funding programs and the research and innovation ecosystem.

Languages:
Excellent knowledge of English is mandatory, along with satisfactory knowledge of French. Knowledge of additional languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish is considered an asset and would be beneficial for the role.
