Job Overview:
The E T Consultant for Flood Risk Modeling & Management will play a crucial role in the World Bank's efforts to manage disaster risks associated with flooding. This position involves providing expert technical inputs and operational support on disaster risk analytics to various teams and clients. The consultant will be responsible for developing and implementing flood risk analytics, engaging with government counterparts, and contributing to knowledge products related to climate and disaster risk management. The role requires collaboration with Task Team Leaders and core staff within the Global Knowledge Unit for Disaster Management, Solutions & Impact (KIUSD), ensuring that disaster risk management is integrated into broader strategies. The consultant will also support the development of flood risk modeling products and engage in partnerships to advance the field of flood risk management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the E T Consultant include: 1) Providing expert technical inputs and operational support on disaster risk analytics to Task Teams and World Bank clients. 2) Supporting the development and implementation of flood risk analytics that inform post-disaster damage tools. 3) Engaging with regional Task Team Leaders and government counterparts on risk analytics methodologies. 4) Developing risk analytics capabilities through innovations and tools to support Bank operations. 5) Supporting the implementation of flood and climate-related risk reduction activities. 6) Discussing technical requirements for Flood Risk Management Technical Assistance with task teams. 7) Cultivating partnerships with external institutions and internal teams for co-development of new products. 8) Illustrating program advancements through blogs, papers, and conference contributions. 9) Contributing to programmatic outputs including results monitoring and reporting. 10) Facilitating team building and knowledge sharing within KIUSD. 11) Carrying out other relevant tasks to support the overall objectives of the position.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the E T Consultant position include: 1) A Master’s degree or PhD in Risk Modelling, Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Hydrology, Risk Analysis, Disaster Risk Management, or related fields. 2) A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience, particularly in disaster risk analysis and hydraulic modeling. 3) Experience in producing technical deliverables such as reports and presentations. 4) Working knowledge of World Bank operations, especially in disaster risk management and climate change adaptation. 5) Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions. 6) Experience in flood-related infrastructure projects is desired. 7) Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or PhD in relevant fields such as Risk Modelling, Civil Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Hydrology, or Disaster Risk Management. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and technical skills to perform effectively in the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience. This experience should include practical work in disaster risk analysis, hydraulic and hydrological modeling, and familiarity with World Bank operations. Candidates with experience in technical assistance related to seismic, tropical cyclone, and flood risk management will be preferred.

Languages:
Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in another language such as French, Spanish, or Portuguese is strongly desirable but not required. This linguistic capability will enhance communication with diverse stakeholders and clients.
