Job Overview: The Associate Financial Accounting position is a critical role within the Bank’s Financial Accounting team, responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards. The Associate will be tasked with preparing periodic and annual financial reports for the Bank and the Donor Funds it administers. This role requires a thorough understanding of accounting principles and the ability to apply them effectively to produce meaningful financial reporting. The Associate will interact with various departments within the Bank to gather and analyze information necessary for fulfilling both internal and external financial reporting requirements. Additionally, the role involves responding to inquiries from internal and external auditors, ensuring that the financial reporting processes are transparent and compliant with established standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Financial Accounting include: preparing sections of the year-end financial statements with all required disclosures and notes accurately and to a tight deadline; preparing periodic internal financial management reporting; assessing the impact of the latest IFRS accounting standards on EBRD financial statements to ensure compliance; ensuring that the accounting policies of the Bank are up-to-date and consistent with IFRS; assessing the accounting treatment of banking products in line with IFRS requirements; undertaking investigations and inspections of data to identify and quantify potential accounting postings required; maintaining the accounting and reporting systems, files, and other records required for the Bank and Donor Funds; reviewing transactions booked in front office systems for accuracy; liaising with Operations and front office teams to resolve booking issues; identifying solutions to non-standard tasks/queries; providing advice to internal clients on relevant financial products or transactions; contributing to the development of procedures to enhance the accounting department's responsiveness; reviewing and signing off on team members’ journals for accuracy; supervising and training new team members and temporary staff; producing work in compliance with the Bank’s Internal Controls Framework; liaising with internal and external auditors; and supporting the team in the delivery of the Compass transformation project, including process design, system testing, data migration, and implementation activities.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be educated to degree level and hold ACA qualification or an equivalent qualification. Significant relevant accounting experience is required, preferably in a Financial Services setting. Experience in a Big 4 accounting firm and/or an international bank is preferred. Candidates should possess fluent English language skills, both verbal and written, and have experience in statutory financial accounts preparation and/or audit experience on financial accounts. Strong numerical and financial skills are essential, along with the ability to interpret financial information. Candidates should also have strong data analysis and financial analysis skills, and experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI. Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with SAP or equivalent accounting systems are also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a degree in finance, accounting, or a related field. Candidates must also hold a professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA, or equivalent, which demonstrates a high level of expertise in accounting principles and practices.
Experience: The position requires significant relevant accounting experience, ideally within a financial services environment. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in roles that involve financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and interaction with auditors. Experience in a Big 4 accounting firm or an international banking institution is highly desirable, as it indicates familiarity with complex financial environments and regulatory requirements.
Languages: Fluent English language skills are mandatory for this position, both verbal and written. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the regions in which the EBRD operates, but English remains the primary language of communication within the organization.
