Job Overview: The Assistant Electrical DesignEngineer will play a crucial role in preparing detailed electrical designs for various building projects, including schools, hospitals, clinics, shelters, and warehouses. This position requires proficiency in CAD software to ensure that all designs comply with UNRWA policies, local and international codes, and incorporate green elements and safety considerations. The incumbent will also contribute to the preparation of tender documents related to electrical works, draft specifications for non-standard items, and assist in the technical support of electrical alteration works within Agency premises. The role involves close collaboration with construction teams to address design issues during implementation and updating electrical drawings to reflect as-built conditions. The Assistant Electrical Design Engineer will also coordinate with other designers to optimize electrical solutions and may suggest improvements where applicable. This position requires a proactive approach to drafting Terms of Reference for consultants and monitoring their adherence to design criteria and standards. Additionally, the incumbent will provide inputs for various technical reports and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed electrical designs using CAD software for building projects, ensuring compliance with Agency policies and standards.
Contribute to the preparation of tender documents related to electrical works, including drafting specifications and preparing descriptions for Bills of Quantities (BoQs).
Provide technical support for electrical alteration works, including assessments of existing systems and remediation requirements.
Collaborate with construction teams to address electrical design issues during implementation and update drawings to reflect as-built conditions.
Coordinate with other designers to optimize electrical solutions, ensuring safety and integrity in overall designs.
Draft Terms of Reference for consultants and monitor their work to ensure adherence to design criteria.
Provide inputs for electrical technical reports and progress reports.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
A university degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
At least three years of relevant experience in electrical design resources, particularly in public buildings and developmental projects.
Proficiency in electrical design software and CAD tools, such as AutoCAD.
Good command of written and spoken English and Arabic is required.
Current residency in the duty station is required, and applicants must specify their location.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a university degree in electrical engineering from an accredited university or institution. Additional Notes: The appointment for this position is limited to the UNRWA - Programme Infrastructure/Engineering at Headquarters in Amman. The contract type is a Fixed Term Appointment for one year, with a one-year probation period and the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The monthly basic salary is JD 843.500 fils, with a Special Occupational Allowance of 60% of the basic salary. Other benefits include a monthly Provident Fund contribution, compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and additional sick leave and maternity/paternity leave provisions. Candidates must reside in Jordan and be within commuting distance of the duty station, as the Agency will not facilitate work permits. Preference will be given to registered Palestine refugees and candidates who assist in achieving gender parity. The recruitment process may involve a technical test and competency-based interviews, and a roster may be created for future appointments.
