Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNHCR is crucial for the effective transportation of personnel and materials necessary for the organization's operations in Sudan. The incumbent will be responsible for driving UNHCR vehicles, ensuring the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of passengers, and maintaining the vehicles in accordance with established guidelines. This role requires adherence to strict security protocols and operational instructions, as well as effective communication with various stakeholders, including UNHCR staff, partners, and government authorities. The driver will also be expected to perform minor vehicle maintenance and repairs, ensuring that all vehicles are roadworthy and compliant with safety standards. The position demands a high level of professionalism, integrity, and commitment to UNHCR's core values, as the driver plays a vital role in facilitating the organization's mission to provide protection and assistance to those in need.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Drive UNHCR vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers, deliver and collect documents and other items as required.
• Meet official personnel at airports or other locations and facilitate immigration and customs formalities.
• Perform day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and ensuring vehicles are roadworthy.
• Conduct minor repairs and arrange for major repairs as necessary, ensuring vehicles are kept clean and well-maintained.
• Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and maintenance activities.
• Follow all instructions and security guidance provided by supervisors and security focal points.
• Ensure valid documentation for passengers, items, or cargo in the vehicle.
• Support the identification and management of risks and seek to seize opportunities impacting objectives in the area of responsibility.
• Perform other related duties as required by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

• Valid driving license and knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
• Demonstrated defensive driving skills and a strong commitment to road safety.
• Proven experience as a professional driver in an international organization, UN agency, or similar environment.
• Sound knowledge of vehicle maintenance, including routine inspections and identification of minor mechanical issues.
• Basic administrative and record-keeping skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with UNHCR personnel and external stakeholders.
• Ability to work under pressure and follow operational instructions consistently.
• High standards of integrity and professionalism.

Educational Background:
Completion of Primary Education or High School Diploma or higher is required for this position. A background in vehicle maintenance or related fields is advantageous but not mandatory.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in driving and vehicle maintenance. Experience in an international organization or similar professional environment is preferred, demonstrating the ability to operate in diverse and challenging contexts.

Languages:
Knowledge of English is mandatory, along with the UN working language of the duty station if not English. For General Service jobs, knowledge of English and/or the UN working language of the duty station is required. Local language proficiency is also beneficial.
