Job Overview:
The Investment Research Analyst/Senior Investment Research Analyst position within the Finance Department (FIN) at the IMF is crucial for supporting the investment activities of the Fund’s Investment Unit (FIU) and Pension Investment Unit (PIU). These two units manage a substantial portfolio exceeding $100 billion, which encompasses a diverse range of investment strategies including fixed income, public equities, and private markets. The role involves providing comprehensive research, analytical, and operational support across various investment activities. Analysts will be assigned to either FIU or PIU based on the organization's business needs, allowing them to gain exposure to a wide array of investment functions and asset classes. This position is designed to foster professional development and enhance the analytical capabilities of the team, contributing to the overall investment strategy and decision-making processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Investment Research Analyst will be responsible for conducting both qualitative and quantitative research on financial markets, asset classes, investment strategies, and investment managers. Key duties include analyzing economic, market, portfolio, and performance data to identify trends, risks, and investment opportunities that support investment decision-making. Analysts will develop and maintain analytical models, tools, dashboards, and databases to facilitate portfolio monitoring, risk assessment, and investment research. They will also monitor portfolio performance and the implementation of investment strategies, supporting the due diligence and ongoing evaluation of external investment managers. Additionally, the role involves preparing investment reports, presentations, briefing materials, and analytical memoranda for management and governance committees. Analysts will utilize investment databases and financial market platforms to collect, validate, and analyze investment information, while also supporting governance and operational processes. Identifying opportunities for improving analytical processes and collaborating with colleagues, consultants, and investment managers are also essential aspects of this role.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong educational development, typically acquired through the completion of an undergraduate degree in fields such as investments/finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, statistics, or accounting. Alternatively, candidates with an undergraduate degree in another field coupled with relevant professional experience in the investment sector will also be considered. Enrollment in the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) certification program is required, and candidates must either be CFA charter holders or be prepared to undertake the CFA certification program. Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential, along with proficiency in Excel and familiarity with financial and economic data platforms such as Bloomberg and eVestment. Experience with programming and analytical tools like Python, R, VBA, or MATLAB is desirable. Candidates should also have knowledge of investment theory and practice, including portfolio analytics, performance measurement, risk analysis, and asset allocation concepts. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary, as well as strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration in a diverse team environment.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an undergraduate degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as investments/finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, statistics, or accounting. Candidates with an undergraduate degree in another field, combined with relevant professional work experience in the investment field, will also be considered. Additionally, candidates must be enrolled in the CFA certification program or be CFA charter holders, which demonstrates a commitment to professional development and expertise in investment analysis.

Additional Notes:
This position is a one-year contractual appointment, with the possibility of renewal for up to four years of cumulative contractual service, depending on performance, budget availability, and ongoing business needs.
