Job Overview:
The Underwriter position at MIGA involves leading transaction teams and underwriting guarantee transactions as the transaction lead. The role requires strong project finance, public sector finance, political risk insurance, trade finance, and structured finance underwriting skills. The Underwriter will work closely with various stakeholders, including clients and partners, to assess project risks, conduct due diligence, and develop recommendations for guarantee terms and conditions. This position offers an opportunity to gain extensive knowledge of MIGA's guarantee activities across different sectors and regions, contributing to impactful development projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Underwriter will lead multi-disciplinary transaction teams through the underwriting and approval process, conducting sector and project risk assessments, preparing complex financial models, and collaborating with risk management officers. Responsibilities include negotiating contracts of guarantee, engaging with clients, preparing high-quality proposal documents, and supporting new business origination efforts. The Underwriter will also be responsible for delivering presentations to various stakeholders and ensuring effective communication throughout the transaction process.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, International Business, or a related field, along with at least 5 years of relevant experience. This experience should include analyzing and executing project financings, trade finance, or structured financial transactions, particularly in emerging markets. A solid understanding of political and sovereign risk guarantee products, as well as demonstrated technical underwriting skills, is essential. Strong analytical and communication skills, along with effective interpersonal abilities, are also required.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Economics, or International Business is mandatory for this position. This educational background should be complemented by practical experience in analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">financial analysis and project financing, particularly in complex transactions within emerging markets.

Experience:
The Underwriter role requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in analyzing and executing project financings, trade finance, or structured financial transactions. Experience should ideally be gained in reputable global financial institutions, including multi-lateral development banks, consulting firms, or investment banks, with a focus on complex transactions in emerging markets.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for this position. Proficiency in French and/or Spanish is considered a plus, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and clients.

This position is initially based in Washington, DC, but there is a strong possibility of decentralization due to the regionalization agenda. The contract duration is set for 3 years, and the recruitment type is international.
