International Communication Intern

Job Overview:
The International Communication Intern will work under the direct supervision of the Communication Specialist at UNFPA Pacific in Suva, Fiji. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about communication in the context of international development. The intern will support the creation and dissemination of content that raises awareness of UNFPA's work on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and youth development in the Pacific region. The internship will last for six months and will include a structured work-plan with specific achievements and learning opportunities. Regular progress meetings will be held to ensure a supportive environment that enhances the intern's skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mandate. The intern will be responsible for developing engaging multimedia content and will have the opportunity to contribute to various communication channels, including social media, websites, and publications.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will assist in developing content for various communication channels, which includes creating short videos, web stories, animations, and infographics. Specific duties include:

• Video Editing: Assisting with editing existing video footage, creating short video clips, and adding graphics and animations.
• Content Development: Assisting with developing storyboards and scripts for multimedia content.
• Social Media Management: Scheduling and posting engaging content on UNFPA’s social media channels.
• Graphic Design: Creating infographics, presentations, and other visual content to support communication campaigns.
• Content Research: Conducting research to identify relevant multimedia resources and trends, and monitoring online conversations and audience engagement on social media.
• Participation: Engaging in brainstorming sessions and providing creative inputs.
• Trend Monitoring: Keeping up-to-date on current issues related to SRHR and youth development in the Pacific.
• Additional Duties: Performing other duties as assigned by the Communications Supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following qualifications:

• Be enrolled in a master’s degree programme in communication, journalism, international relations, development studies, or a related field.
• Have recently graduated with a university degree in the aforementioned fields and must start the internship within one year of graduation.
• Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional trainee programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme.
• Strong visual storytelling skills, writing and editing skills, research and analytical skills, and experience with video editing and graphic design software are essential.
• Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently and as part of a team, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and be proficient in social media platforms.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes being enrolled in or having recently graduated from a master’s degree programme in communication, journalism, international relations, development studies, or a related field. Candidates who are part of a postgraduate professional trainee programme are also eligible to apply, provided the internship is part of their programme requirements.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in communication, particularly in areas related to multimedia content creation, social media management, and graphic design. Familiarity with video editing software and strong writing skills are also essential. While specific years of experience are not mandated, candidates should demonstrate a strong portfolio of relevant work or projects that showcase their skills and capabilities in communication.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly if they relate to the Pacific region or the communities UNFPA serves.

Additional Notes:
This internship is a full-time position lasting for six months. Interns will not receive a salary from UNFPA but will be provided with a monthly stipend. It is important for applicants to have medical insurance for the duration of the internship, as UNFPA does not provide this coverage.
