Job Overview:
The UNEP Consultant on TEEB National Implementation will play a crucial role in executing various work packages of The Economics of Ecosystem and Biodiversity (TEEB) projects, particularly focusing on 'True Value Accounting: Making the Economic Case for Food Systems Transformation in India and Kenya.' This position requires the consultant to effectively communicate TEEBAgriFood evidence and approaches to policy and decision-makers, ensuring that these findings are integrated into national and sub-national policy processes. The consultant will identify practical pathways for incorporating TEEBAgriFood findings into government planning, budgeting, and resource allocation decisions. The role also involves engaging key stakeholders in Sikkim to support the implementation of the TEEBAgriFood approach within relevant state policies and programs. The consultant will document policy engagement and mainstreaming opportunities systematically, contributing to project monitoring and reporting processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties and responsibilities include:

• Advancing the mainstreaming of the TEEBAgriFood framework among policy- and decision-makers at national and sub-national levels.
• Providing periodic policy advice to the TEEBAgriFood team and research partners on emerging mainstreaming opportunities identified through consultations and stakeholder engagement.
• Engaging with state departments, including planning and finance, to promote the application of TEEBAgriFood evidence in public investment and budgeting decisions.
• Coordinating with policy experts from partner research institutions to recommend pathways for integrating TEEBAgriFood findings into policy processes.
• Facilitating engagement with key stakeholders in Sikkim to advance the implementation of the TEEBAgriFood approach.
• Participating in knowledge dissemination and capacity-building activities for policy- and decision-makers.
• Reviewing and providing inputs to policy briefs and stakeholder-oriented communications.
• Contributing to project monitoring, reporting, and documentation processes.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in fields such as environmental geoinformatics, environmental management, law, social anthropology, sustainable development, economics, or agriculture. A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Additionally, a minimum of seven years’ experience working with various branches of the Government of India, particularly on agriculture and environmental issues, is essential.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as environmental geoinformatics, environmental management, law, social anthropology, sustainable development, economics, or agriculture. Alternatively, a first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
The consultant should have a minimum of seven years of experience working with different branches of the Government of India, including at senior levels, on issues related to agriculture and the environment. This experience should include a deep understanding of the policy landscape for sustainable agriculture and previous interactions with key stakeholders at both state and federal levels.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is essential for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Additionally, fluency in spoken Hindi is desirable, as it may facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the consultant's engagement in the project.

Additional Notes:
The position is home-based and is expected to last for 12 months. The consultant will work under the overall supervision of the Head of the Economics of Nature Unit.
