UN Partnerships oversees various initiatives, including the SDG Advocates programme, the UN Fund for International Partnerships (UNFIP), and the UN Democracy Fund (UNDEF). Job Overview:
The Associate Public Information Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the initiatives of UN Partnerships. This position involves tracking, researching, and analyzing information on assigned topics, gathering data from diverse sources, and assessing news value and potential impact. The incumbent will draft and compile various communication products for target audiences, including press releases, media packets, reports, and newsletters. Additionally, the officer will participate in developing and maintaining project plans, schedules, and budgets for Information Systems, and will assist in identifying human and technical resources necessary for project completion. The role also includes organizing the clearance, production, and distribution of information materials, conducting photo and graphic research, and preparing articles for UN publications. The officer will identify strategic partnership opportunities and maintain relationships with key contacts to facilitate communication efforts. Furthermore, the incumbent will respond to inquiries, provide administrative support for meetings and conferences, and manage the production of various media materials. This position requires a proactive approach to communication and collaboration within the team and with external stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Associate Public Information Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Track, research, and analyze information on assigned topics/issues; gather information from diverse sources and assess news value and potential impact.
  • Draft and compile various types of information communications products for target audiences, including press releases, media packets, reports, brochures, briefings, video clips, newsletters, and websites.
  • Participate in developing and maintaining Information Systems project plans, schedules, and budgets; assist in identifying appropriate human and technical resources.
  • Organize the clearance, production, and distribution of information materials; conduct photo and graphic research.
  • Prepare drafts of articles or chapters for inclusion in UN newsletters, periodicals, reports, and books.
  • Identify and propose information opportunities, activities, and approaches based on the situation/topic and target audience.
  • Identify key contacts and opportunities for strategic partnerships to facilitate communication efforts.
  • Organize or participate in productions, broadcasts, conferences, seminars, press briefings, and interviews; prepare briefing materials for senior officials.
  • Respond to inquiries and information requests; prepare related correspondence. 1
  • Contribute to data collection and analysis, identifying trends and providing insights through data visualization methods. 1
  • Provide administrative and substantive support to meetings and conferences, including proposing agenda topics and preparing background documents. 1
  • Manage production and publication of materials for various media formats. 1
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level or advanced degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate) with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of public communication campaigns, market research, and message targeting, as well as the ability to draft clear and concise written communication products. Professionalism, effective communication skills, and the ability to plan and organize work efficiently are essential.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, or related fields is required. A first-level or advanced degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate degree, or equivalent) with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration, or a related area is required. Candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Competitive Recruitment Examination (NCRE), or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P) are exempt from this experience requirement. Experience in video production and broadcast, as well as organizing media and network partners for complex events, is required. Additionally, experience in complex production design and content creation is necessary. A minimum of two years of experience in data analytics, including the collection, analysis, interpretation, and visualization of communications and public information data, is desirable.

Languages:
English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is also a working language of the United Nations Secretariat, but proficiency in French is not mandatory for this position.

Additional Notes:
This position is temporarily available for six months, and appointment is subject to the availability of funding. The selection process may include an assessment exercise followed by a competency-based interview. The position is open to candidates based at the duty station, and staff members of the United Nations common system organizations who will reach the mandatory age of separation or retirement within the duration of the current temporary need period are not eligible to apply. The United Nations does not charge a fee at any stage of the recruitment process.
