Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position within the Private Partnerships & Philanthropy Section of UNHCR is designed to provide support to the Headquarters team in Copenhagen. The intern will engage in various activities including coordination, event planning, communications, and knowledge management. This role is particularly crucial during the peak period of events and engagement activities that occur in December and January. The intern will gain practical experience in private sector partnerships and humanitarian engagement, contributing to the overall mission of UNHCR by assisting in the mobilization of resources and strengthening partnerships with private entities. The intern will also have the opportunity to develop skills in project tracking, stakeholder engagement, and internal communications, all within a fast-paced international environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks including:
  • Supporting the planning, coordination, and delivery of PPH-related events and meetings, particularly during the peak December–January period.
  • Maintaining event workplans, timelines, trackers, participant lists, and task follow-up tools.
  • Assisting in the preparation of agendas, briefing materials, background notes, talking points, and run-of-show documents.
  • Managing scheduling, invitation logistics, and ensuring effective information flow among internal stakeholders.
  • Contributing to post-event follow-up by consolidating outcomes, lessons learned, and action points.
  • Supporting coordination across PPH workstreams, including preparation of meeting notes and consolidation of inputs from colleagues.
  • Drafting and editing internal communications and team-facing materials.
  • Ensuring clarity and consistency in messages and materials in alignment with UNHCR standards.
  • Supporting the implementation of communications and visibility activities for key private sector donors. 1
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of internal knowledge products and SharePoint content, ensuring accessibility and usability of resources. 1
  • Contributing to the creation of templates and process notes to enhance team coordination.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet UNHCR’s internship eligibility requirements, which include being a current student in an undergraduate or graduate program from an accredited institution or a recent graduate who completed their studies within the last two years. Additionally, candidates should have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field. Desirable qualifications include studies in international relations, communications, business administration, political science, public policy, development studies, event management, or knowledge management. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines are essential. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a degree program in a field relevant to UNHCR’s work. Candidates should have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies, which may include disciplines such as international relations, communications, business administration, political science, public policy, development studies, or event management.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience, particularly in supporting events, meetings, communications, or coordination processes. While specific prior work experience is not mandatory, any relevant experience in these areas will be considered advantageous. The internship is designed for individuals who are either current students or recent graduates, thus the expectation is for candidates to have some practical exposure to the field through academic projects or internships.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills required. While not mandatory, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to UNHCR’s operations and partnerships.

Additional Notes:
This internship is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, and will follow UNHCR’s policies and operational requirements. The intern will work under the supervision of a designated colleague and collaborate closely with other team members. Flexibility may be required during peak coordination periods, especially in December and January.
