Job Overview: The Senior Officer, AI Innovation (Health) plays a pivotal role at the intersection of technical innovation and health impact. This position involves identifying early-stage AI innovations relevant to India's health priorities, rapidly prototyping and testing these ideas for relevance and feasibility. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including Program Strategy Teams (PSTs), government counterparts, and innovation ecosystem partners. The foundation's mission focuses on leveraging AI to bridge the digital divide, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), ensuring ethical and fair use of AI to enhance health outcomes. The Senior Officer will engage in scouting for AI innovations, conducting proof-of-concept pilots, and collaborating with ecosystem partners to drive responsible AI adoption in health.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Frontier Scouting & Early Bet Identification: Continuously monitor the AI landscape to identify and prioritize innovations that can address health priorities in India, particularly in areas like Maternal Newborn nutrition" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Child Nutrition Health (MNCNH), diagnostics, and connected care. Maintain a pipeline of candidate innovations for potential investment.
Proof-of-Concept & Rapid Prototyping: Design and execute lightweight pilots to test AI ideas' clinical relevance and feasibility, translating research innovations into practical prototypes.
Innovation Ecosystem Engagement: Collaborate with partners across academia, industry, and civil society to identify promising AI applications in health and represent the foundation in relevant forums.
Technical Evaluation & Evidence Generation: Work with the Measurement, Learning and Evaluation (MLE) team to assess prototypes against health benchmarks, documenting learnings transparently.
Structured Handover to Scaling: Package validated concepts for handover to the AI Applied sub-team, making recommendations based on evidence gathered during prototyping.
Internal Capacity Building: Share AI trends and prototype learnings with ICO program teams to enhance AI literacy within the foundation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess a unique blend of clinical or biomedical expertise and technical knowledge in AI. They should have a strong understanding of clinical workflows and the challenges of deploying AI in low-resource settings. Familiarity with health AI applications, such as medical imaging and clinical decision support tools, is essential. A proven track record of academic or applied research in AI for health is also required, along with the ability to communicate complex concepts to diverse audiences. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to using AI for public good and possess strong teamwork and adaptability skills.
Educational Background: The ideal candidate should have an MD/MBBS or a clinical/biomedical degree, complemented by formal training or experience in biomedical informatics, data science, or a related field. This educational background is crucial for understanding the intersection of clinical practice and AI.
Experience: Candidates should have experience working at the intersection of clinical practice or biomedical research and AI/ML, with direct exposure to the functioning of clinical workflows and care delivery in low-resource settings. They should also have hands-on familiarity with health AI applications and a track record of early-stage experimentation and prototyping.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of additional languages relevant to the Indian context would be advantageous.
Additional Notes: This position is primarily based in New Delhi, but remote work arrangements may be considered for candidates whose qualifications align closely with the role's requirements. The role may require travel up to 30% of the time, both domestically and internationally. Candidates must be legally eligible to work in India without visa sponsorship.
