Job Overview:
The position of Psychiatrist at MSF in Bamako, Mali, involves providing treatment to patients suffering from common and severe psychiatric disorders, with a strong emphasis on cultural context. The psychiatrist will be responsible for training and supervising both national and international medical staff, including doctors and nurses, in the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders based on MSF guidelines. The role also includes participating in mental health team interventions, supervising and supporting national psychologists and counselors, and ensuring that MSF's standard medication guidelines are adhered to. The psychiatrist will evaluate available psychiatric services in the country, including hospitalization options, and work to establish communication and collaboration with other medical specialists to develop a multidisciplinary approach to care.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provide treatment to patients with common and severe psychiatric disorders, considering cultural contexts.
• Train and supervise national and international medical staff (doctors and nurses) in diagnosing and treating mental health disorders according to MSF guidelines.
• Participate in mental health team interventions, offering supervision and support to national psychologists and counselors.
• Ensure that MSF's standard medication guidelines for psychotropic treatments are available and followed.
• Collect necessary information for treatment and follow-up to ensure quality care delivery.
• Assess the availability and quality of psychiatric services in the intervention country, including hospitalization options.
• Establish links with the Ministry of Health (MoH) to explore the viability of psychiatric treatment.
• Collaborate with other medical specialists involved in the project to develop a multidisciplinary approach to care.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess a medical degree in psychiatry and have a valid medical license to practice. Additionally, candidates should have experience in mental health care, particularly in humanitarian settings. Strong communication skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team are essential. Knowledge of MSF's guidelines and protocols is an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed a medical degree with a specialization in psychiatry. Additional training or certifications in mental health care, particularly in crisis situations or humanitarian contexts, is highly desirable.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience in psychiatry, preferably in a humanitarian or emergency context. Experience in training and supervising medical staff is also beneficial, as is familiarity with the challenges of providing mental health care in low-resource settings.

Languages:
Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in the region. Proficiency in English is a plus, as it may facilitate collaboration with international staff and resources.
