Job Overview:
The Graphic Design Consultant position is designed to support UNEP's Plastics Unit by providing high-quality visual products that adhere to UNEP’s publication, accessibility, and branding standards. The consultant will be responsible for creating visually appealing reports, briefs, infographics, and presentations that effectively communicate complex technical and policy information to diverse audiences, including non-technical stakeholders. The role requires a strong emphasis on visual coherence and clarity, ensuring that all materials produced are consistent with UNEP’s visual identity and the Plastic Reboot brand guidelines. The consultant will also be tasked with enhancing existing project materials to improve readability and logical flow, as well as creating engaging digital assets optimized for various platforms.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Graphic Design Consultant will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: designing, formatting, and producing visual resources such as reports, policy briefs, technical documents, and publications to support UNEP's programme delivery; ensuring that all outputs meet quality standards and align with UNEP's branding guidelines; developing information design and data visualizations to disseminate programme information in an accessible and visually compelling manner; preparing and refining presentation decks and slide templates for meetings and conferences; creating event materials including roll-ups, backdrops, agendas, name tags, signage, and digital displays, all while maintaining a consistent visual identity across all materials.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in communications, information design, data visualization, environmental studies, international relations, or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of experience in graphic design, publication layout, and visual content production is required. Proven experience in applying organizational brand guidelines, such as those of the UN or GEF, to publications and visual materials is essential. Additionally, candidates must have demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite software, including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop, to produce various communications and design outputs. Familiarity with environmental or sustainability-related themes is considered an advantage, as is the ability to review technical reports for minor language, grammar, and typographical errors with attention to detail.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as communications, information design, data visualization, environmental studies, or international relations. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of environmental issues and effectively communicating them through visual design.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in graphic design, publication layout, and visual content production. This experience should include a strong portfolio demonstrating the ability to create high-quality visual materials that adhere to brand guidelines and effectively communicate complex information.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is crucial for effectively communicating with diverse stakeholders and producing high-quality written materials.
