Job Overview:
The Principal, Quality Engineering is responsible for leading the quality engineering strategy within the EBRD, focusing on ensuring the quality of the bank's platforms and technology solutions. This role involves acting as the quality authority for multi-disciplinary engineering teams, setting the overall quality direction, and ensuring adherence to best practices and EBRD standards. The Principal will provide leadership to a team of quality engineering professionals, driving quality standards, test strategy, automation, and continuous improvement. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including Cyber security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Architects and Product Owners, to embed security considerations into the development process. The Principal will also manage quality activities across multiple projects, ensuring effective governance and delivery of quality outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Principal, Quality Engineering will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Collaborating with Cyber Security Architects, Product Owners, and Business Analysts to ensure security considerations are integrated into user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Conducting comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential security threats and prioritizing risk mitigation activities.
  • Defining and owning the security testing strategy for products, ensuring alignment with organizational risk appetite.
  • Overseeing the integration of security testing into CI/CD pipelines, including static and dynamic code analysis.
  • Participating in solution design discussions to ensure secure coding standards are met.
  • Advocating for the inclusion of security acceptance criteria in sprint planning and backlog refinement.
  • Implementing structured processes for categorizing and prioritizing security vulnerabilities.
  • Leading initiatives that incorporate security frameworks into engineering processes.
  • Developing and presenting metrics on security-related coverage and application defects to senior leadership. 1
  • Mentoring and coaching security-focused Quality Engineers and establishing security guilds for knowledge sharing.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must hold an ISTQB Advanced Test Manager certification or an equivalent recognized certification in test management. Additional qualifications such as ISTQB Advanced Security Tester, CISM, CISSP, or GIAC GSEC are desirable. A qualification in IT Service Management, such as ITIL v3 or v4 Foundation, is also preferred. Candidates should demonstrate comprehensive QA leadership across advanced automation and performance testing, integrating Agile or DevOps methodologies at scale. Experience in Quality Engineering management within an agile, product-focused IT department, ideally in a financial institution, is essential. Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as PCI-DSS, ISO 27001, and NIST is also required.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized certifications in cybersecurity or quality engineering are advantageous and may enhance a candidate's profile.

Experience:
Candidates should have substantial experience in Quality Engineering management and operations, particularly within an agile environment. Experience with code branching strategies and integration of quality into CI/CD pipelines is essential. Familiarity with advanced AI/ML approaches for improving quality efficiency and effectiveness is also required. Candidates should have a proven track record of providing expert security testing and managing compliance audits.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those relevant to the EBRD's operational regions, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's application.
