Job Overview:
The Junior Climate Change Specialist will play a crucial role in the successful delivery of the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN) Programme of Work, particularly focusing on Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). This position involves providing technical assistance to countries in the region, strengthening partnerships, and managing engagement with National Designated Entities (NDEs). The specialist will support the development and delivery of technical assistance requests, monitor compliance with work plans, and evaluate proposals submitted by network members. The role also includes capacity building, knowledge management, and communication activities related to climate change technologies. The successful candidate will be expected to develop materials for regional forums and events, provide insights on climate technology gaps, and support the monitoring of post-technical assistance pipelines.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Junior Climate Change Specialist include:
  • Supporting the development and delivery of technical assistance in LAC.
  • Assisting in the generation and refinement of adaptation technical assistance requests.
  • Managing day-to-day operations of technical assistance requests.
  • Reviewing requests from countries and providing recommendations on eligibility and prioritization.
  • Designing and implementing technical assistance response plans.
  • Monitoring the work of implementers to ensure compliance with timelines and deliverables.
  • Reviewing deliverables and providing recommendations on quality.
  • Supporting the evaluation of technical proposals from CTCN network members.
  • Engaging in capacity building and knowledge management activities related to climate change. 1
  • Developing materials for regional forums, trainings, and consultative processes. 1
  • Providing intelligence on climate technology gaps and uptake in the region. 1
  • Supporting the monitoring of the CTCN post-technical assistance pipeline.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Junior Climate Change Specialist position include:
  • A university degree in engineering, environmental science, international development, international public policy, or a related field.
  • A Master's degree in a relevant field is considered an asset.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience in environmental management, natural resources, or international development.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience specifically in climate change issues and economic development in Latin America and the Caribbean.
  • Experience in preparing briefing notes, planning documents, and project coordination tools.
  • Good knowledge of climate change mitigation and adaptation issues in the LAC region is advantageous.
  • Experience working with UN or international organizations is a plus.
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for data analysis and communication is beneficial.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly. 1
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and deliver tasks effectively.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a university degree in a relevant field such as engineering, environmental science, international development, or international public policy. A Master's degree in a related area is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
The position requires at least 3 years of professional experience in the fields of environment, natural resources management, or international development. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of experience specifically addressing climate change issues and understanding the economic development levels of various countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Languages:
Strong communication and writing skills in both Spanish and English are mandatory for this position. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective collaboration and communication within the diverse teams and stakeholders involved in climate change initiatives.
