Job Overview: The position of Monitoring and CoordinationIntern is designed to assist the EGRISS Secretariat, which is part of the Global Data Service (GDS) at UNHCR. The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of the Global Annual Inclusion (GAIN) survey, which is a key monitoring mechanism for documenting the statistical inclusion of forcibly displaced and stateless populations in national data systems. The intern will work closely with EGRISS Secretariat staff and relevant members to enhance participation in the GAIN survey, maintain monitoring databases, and contribute to annual reporting and dissemination activities. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in international statistical standards, monitoring and evaluation, survey implementation, data analysis, and stakeholder coordination. The intern will also explore innovative technologies, including artificial intelligence, to strengthen monitoring and knowledge management processes.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will have a diverse set of duties and responsibilities, including:
Supporting EGRISS monitoring and evaluation activities, such as assisting in updates to the GAIN 2026 survey questionnaires and protocols, implementing the survey schedule, and maintaining an updated list of focal points from national statistical systems.
Assisting respondents with technical questions during data collection and monitoring survey participation and response rates.
Compiling, organizing, cleaning, and validating collected data, as well as analyzing the data using appropriate statistical techniques.
Preparing GAIN 2026 survey results and updating dissemination and reporting tools.
Supporting the implementation of the EGRISS Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) framework.
Documenting lessons learned and best practices from the GAIN 2026 survey evaluation.
Supporting the preparation of EGRISS outputs, such as the Annual Report and case studies.
Organizing and coordinating meetings, documenting decisions, and making logistical arrangements.
Supporting the effective implementation of EGRISS Secretariat responsibilities.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this internship should demonstrate a strong interest in official statistics and operational data. They should possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills. The candidate should also have proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, experience with statistical software (such as SPSS, Stata, R, or Python), and familiarity with data visualization software (like Power BI or Tableau). An interest in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies for data analysis is considered an asset. The candidate should be able to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Knowledge of survey methodology and data analysis techniques is a plus.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a background in statistics, social sciences, international relations, or a related field. A degree or ongoing studies in these areas is preferred, as it will provide the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of data collection and analysis in the context of forced displacement and statelessness.
Experience: While prior experience is not mandatory, any relevant internships, volunteer work, or academic projects related to data analysis, survey implementation, or humanitarian work will be advantageous. The internship is designed for individuals who are looking to gain practical experience in the field of international statistics and humanitarian action.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, while proficiency in other UN languages, particularly French, Spanish, or Russian, is considered an asset. The ability to communicate effectively in multiple languages will enhance the intern's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and improve survey participation rates.
Additional Notes: This is a full-time internship position based in Copenhagen, with working hours from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday to Friday, totaling 40 hours per week. The internship typically lasts for six months, with the possibility of extension up to eight months for full-time internships. Interns who do not receive financial support from an outside party will receive an allowance to help cover living expenses. UNHCR will reimburse travel costs for interns coming from outside the duty station. Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and health insurance.
