Job Overview:
The Sustainability Analyst position is focused on enhancing Mercy Corps' sustainability data tracking and reporting systems. The organization has been tracking and reporting its sustainability data for five years and is now looking to upgrade its systems to improve accuracy and automation. The selected candidate will work closely with the sustainability team to develop and implement a Power BI dashboard that will facilitate carbon accounting and reporting. This role is crucial for ensuring that the organization can effectively monitor its carbon emissions across various scopes (Scope 1, 2, and 3) and validate the data collected. The consultant will be responsible for creating a user-friendly and visually appealing dashboard that meets the organization's needs while integrating data from multiple sources, including the Enterprise Fabric Lakehouse. The position requires collaboration with the Data Services Team to automate data refresh processes and maintain data integrity, ensuring that the dashboard remains functional and reliable.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the Sustainability Analyst include:
  • Developing and building a custom interactive Power BI dashboard for carbon accounting and reporting, focusing on Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
  • Integrating data from various sources into Power BI to create comprehensive reporting capabilities.
  • Identifying opportunities for improving dashboard functionality and user experience.
  • Ensuring that the dashboard is visually compelling and aligned with the organization's requirements.
  • Collaborating closely with the Data Services Team to automate data refresh processes and ensure data integrity.
  • Delivering a fully functional Power BI dashboard that includes integrated data sources and automated data refresh and error-checking processes.
  • Reporting to the Environmental Sustainability Manager and working closely with the Global Data Services Team throughout the project.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in a relevant technical field, demonstrating industry knowledge and expertise.
  • A proven track record of supporting mission-driven organizations, showcasing a commitment to sustainability and environmental issues.
  • Experience with carbon accounting and emissions reporting, highlighting familiarity with relevant frameworks and standards such as the GHG Protocol.
  • Proven experience in Power BI development, including data modeling, DAX, and data visualization best practices.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and familiarity with data transformation tools, such as Power Query Editor.
  • Understanding of relational databases and data integration processes.

Educational Background:
The ideal candidate should have a degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Data Analytics, or a related field. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of sustainability data and the methodologies used in carbon accounting and reporting.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have 5-10 years of relevant experience in fields related to sustainability, data analytics, or environmental science.
