Established to address the urgent need for integrated climate and clean air solutions, the CCAC focuses on reducing emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) such as methane, black carbon, HFCs, and tropospheric ozone. The CCAC operates globally, with a mission to mobilize action and resources to improve air quality and mitigate climate change. As of October 2023, the CCAC is also providing secretariat services to the Global Methane Pledge, further emphasizing its commitment to tackling climate issues. The CCAC launched the 'Clean Air Flagship' for the period 2024 to 2026, aiming to enhance collaboration among partners to achieve cleaner air and promote integrated air quality and climate planning. The organization is dedicated to maximizing co-benefits for agricultural productivity and overall quality of life, and it operates an online platform for air quality management, the Air Quality Management Exchange Platform (AQMx), which serves as a comprehensive resource for air quality managers, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.

Job Overview:
The CCAC AQMx Manure Management Expert will be responsible for drafting a comprehensive Sectoral Guidance paper of approximately 8,000 words. This document will provide actionable recommendations for improved manure management practices and will identify at least 30 supporting resources to be included in the AQMx Resource Exchange Library. The role requires a focus on practical solutions that can be implemented in low- and middle-income countries, ensuring that the guidance is relevant and accessible to a diverse audience. The expert will conduct consultations with stakeholders, including governments and researchers, to ground the findings in the latest knowledge and best practices in the field. The ultimate goal is to enhance the capacity of air quality managers and policymakers to implement effective manure management strategies that contribute to better air quality and climate outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary duties and responsibilities of the CCAC AQMx Manure Management Expert include:
  • Drafting a Sectoral Guidance paper that outlines the health, climate, ecosystem, and agricultural impacts of manure management.
  • Identifying and compiling a list of at least 30 relevant resources, including reports, scientific publications, databases, and tools, for inclusion in the AQMx Resource Exchange Library.
  • Conducting consultations with the CCAC Agriculture Hub and other relevant stakeholders to gather input and feedback on the Sectoral Guidance.
  • Providing concrete and actionable steps for the design, implementation, enforcement, monitoring, and evaluation of improved manure management programs.
  • Investigating business models and financing options for manure management that are suitable for national and local authorities.
  • Considering socio-economic equity, gender, and the inclusion of vulnerable groups in the guidance.
  • Highlighting successful initiatives and best practices in manure management through case studies.
  • Collaborating closely with the CCAC Secretariat Team to prepare launch materials, including a PowerPoint presentation and key messages to support the dissemination of the Sectoral Guidance.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's-level university degree in engineering, agronomy, environmental management, technology, sciences, economics, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of professional and/or scientific experience related to sustainable agriculture and manure management is required. This experience should be documented in the applicant's CV. Candidates should also demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of experience in research or practical implementation of improved manure management, particularly in collaboration with governments and implementers. Proven experience with business models for manure management, as well as the ability to prepare and deliver presentations, is essential. Furthermore, candidates should have expertise in sustainable agriculture and manure management, with experience working in developing countries and an understanding of various country contexts. The ability to produce clear, accessible, and concise scientific and technical reports for policymakers is also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's-level university degree in a relevant field such as engineering, agronomy, environmental management, technology, sciences, or economics. This advanced degree is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to the development of the Sectoral Guidance on manure management.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional and/or scientific experience in the fields of sustainable agriculture and manure management. This experience should include both research and practical implementation, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of improved manure management practices. Candidates should also have experience working directly with governments and other stakeholders in the field, showcasing their ability to engage with various actors in the sector.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and oral, is mandatory for this position. Candidates with additional knowledge of other UN official languages will be considered an asset, as this can enhance communication and collaboration within the international context of the role.
