Job Overview:
The Project Director will lead and direct the implementation of the Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection Systems (STRIDES) Activity in Ghana, which is a critical initiative aimed at enhancing Global Health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (GHS) priorities. This role involves strengthening the capacity of laboratory and surveillance systems to effectively prevent, detect, and respond to emerging infectious diseases and public health threats. The Project Director will manage all aspects of the STRIDES project, including personnel, budget, and activities, ensuring that the project meets its goals and objectives within the established time frame and funding parameters. This position requires a strong leader who can liaise with various stakeholders, including the United States Department of State, the Government of Ghana, and other implementing partners, to ensure successful project execution and compliance with all regulations and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Director will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all activities related to the STRIDES project. Key responsibilities include establishing work plans and project teams, managing technical and operational staff, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies. The Project Director will also be responsible for creating a safe and equitable work environment, reviewing project proposals, managing relationships with government counterparts and partners, and providing guidance and training to staff. Additionally, the Project Director will oversee the financial and technical reporting, monitor project implementation, and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality deliverables. This role requires strong leadership skills to motivate the project team and ensure clarity over plans and priorities, as well as the ability to build positive relationships with local communities and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of project management theories, concepts, and practices, with a strong preference for familiarity with international GHS frameworks and initiatives. Excellent project management skills are essential, including the ability to develop annual work plans and deliverables while overseeing monitoring and evaluation plans. Strong communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills are required, along with prior experience leading projects and managing relationships with government and stakeholders. Demonstrated leadership skills in managing staff within a matrixed organization and strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are also necessary.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree or its international equivalent in public health or a related health field is required, with a Master's degree preferred. This educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of public health initiatives and project management.

Experience:
A minimum of 10 years of experience is required, including at least 5 years of line management experience with progressively increasing responsibility in designing, implementing, managing, and leading large development programs. Preference will be given to candidates with experience managing USG-funded programs and those who have worked in developing countries. Strong financial management skills and familiarity with compliance regulations are also essential.

Languages:
Proficiency in English (reading, writing, and speaking) is mandatory. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as required.

Additional Notes:
The position is expected to require travel of 10% to 25%. The hiring salary range for this role is indexed to USD 45,000 - 65,000 annually, with considerations for relevant experience and education.
