Job Overview:
The Accountant position at FHI 360 involves performing essential accounting functions that include recording, classifying, examining, and analyzing financial transactions. This role is crucial for the successful implementation of the Strengthening Infectious Disease Detection Systems (STRIDES) project, which aims to enhance global health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security in Ghana. The Accountant will be responsible for reviewing and consolidating financial reports, processing journal entries, managing cash receipts, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. Additionally, the role includes responding to inquiries, assisting with training, maintaining general ledger accounts, and producing various accounting reports. The Accountant will also participate in accounting projects such as audits and system upgrades, making this position integral to the financial health of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Accountant will apply accounting principles to a range of fiscal functions, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost accounting. Key responsibilities include: conducting training on financial systems for field programs, reviewing monthly financial reports for accuracy, reconciling accounts, maintaining subsidiary ledgers, processing payments, preparing VAT reimbursement reports, and reviewing subcontractor financial reports. The Accountant will also assist in analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">financial analysis projects, ensure timely month-end closings, and respond to internal and external audit requests. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and have experience with computerized accounting software. Proficiency in spreadsheet software is essential. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain data integrity. Effective communication skills are necessary to convey financial information clearly and concisely to clients and staff. Experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) is preferred, along with familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's Degree or its international equivalent in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding complex financial systems and accounting practices.

Experience:
Typically, candidates should have a minimum of 3+ years of experience in accounting roles that involve maintaining ledger accounts and ensuring compliance with internal control systems.
