Job Posting Organization:
The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is a prominent intergovernmental platform established to promote cooperation among its 52 member States and 9 associate members. Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed to be full-time at the Bangkok duty station, with a duration of 3 to 6 months. The intern will work under the direct supervision of library support staff and the overall supervision of the Chief Librarian within the Communications and Knowledge Management Section (CKMS). The primary focus of this internship is to support the Library and CKMS team in various tasks related to library, information, and knowledge management. The intern will be involved in raising the visibility of library resources among staff and clients, as well as promoting ESCAP's work among key stakeholders and the public. Daily responsibilities will vary based on the intern's background and the internship period, allowing for a tailored experience that aligns with the intern's skills and interests.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern's duties may include, but are not limited to: assisting in the library’s digitization efforts; participating in information management, knowledge management, and digital asset management tasks; assisting in collection management activities such as shelving and weeding; providing reference and circulation services; cataloguing books, serials, and multimedia materials in the library’s integrated library system (ILS) and institutional repository; designing and publishing publicity and training materials on the library’s e-resources, services, and ESCAP publications, including online brochures, streaming video presentations, and curated email updates; and performing other related work as required. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic library environment while contributing to the mission of ESCAP.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent); or (c) have studied library science or information technology/management, which is desirable. While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme. Proof of eligibility must be attached to the application, and an official certificate will be required at a later stage. Additionally, applicants should possess good knowledge of standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or being in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). A background in library science or information technology/management is considered desirable, as it aligns closely with the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
While the UN Internship Programme does not require professional work experience, applicants should have a field of study that is closely related to the internship they are applying for. This means that relevant academic experience or coursework in library science, information management, or a related field is essential for candidates to be considered for this position.

Languages:
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for the internship programme, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is desirable, and familiarity with an additional ESCAP working language, such as Russian, is considered an asset. This multilingual capability will enhance the intern's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and contribute effectively to the team's objectives.

Additional Notes:
This internship is unpaid and requires a commitment of 5 days per week (37.5 hours per week) for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 6 months. The duration and modality of the internship can be adjusted based on the successful candidate's request. Interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Those who are not citizens or permanent residents of Thailand may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization before accepting the internship offer. It is important to note that the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, including application, interview, or training.
