Job Posting Organization: The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is a vital intergovernmental platform established to promote cooperation among its 53 member States and 9 associate members. ESCAP is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations, dedicated to addressing sustainable development challenges in the Asia-Pacific region. The organization focuses on generating action-oriented knowledge and providing technical assistance and capacity-building services to support national development objectives and regional agreements, particularly in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The ESCAP secretariat plays a crucial role in fostering inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development across the region, ensuring that its initiatives are aligned with global and regional intergovernmental frameworks and agreements.
Job Overview: The internship program at ESCAP is designed to provide practical experience in the field of administration within a UN context. The intern will be integrated into the People Operations and Talent Acquisition Unit of the Human Resources Management Section (HRMS) within the Division of Administration (DA). This position is full-time and unpaid, requiring interns to work five days a week for a total of 35 hours. The internship duration ranges from two to six months, depending on the needs of the division. Interns will engage in various tasks that align with their educational background and skills, contributing to the overall mission of ESCAP while gaining valuable insights into the workings of a major international organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will have a diverse set of responsibilities that may include: assisting in social media outreach efforts on platforms such as LinkedIn and Twitter; conducting recruiting outreach to potential candidates; providing administrative support related to the internship program; implementing and maintaining social networking campaigns; assisting in the creation of communication materials for recruitment purposes; coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure smooth operations; compiling and analyzing statistics related to recruitment activities; generating standard data entries using databases in Excel; reviewing and providing feedback on the design of HR dashboards; and offering administrative support to ongoing projects within the HRMS. The role is dynamic and will adapt to the intern's skills and interests, allowing for a comprehensive learning experience.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). Importantly, no prior working experience is required to apply for this internship, making it accessible for students and recent graduates looking to gain experience in the UN system. The skills and knowledge acquired through the applicant's education or training should ideally contribute to the work of the United Nations during the internship.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess a relevant educational background that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. The focus should be on fields related to human resources, administration, social sciences, or other relevant disciplines that would provide a foundation for the tasks expected in this role.
Experience: This internship does not require any prior work experience, making it an excellent opportunity for students or recent graduates to enter the workforce and gain practical experience in a prestigious international organization. The emphasis is on the educational background and the potential to contribute to the UN's mission rather than on previous employment history.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this internship, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN official language, such as French, is considered an advantage and may enhance the intern's ability to engage in various tasks and communications within the organization.
Additional Notes: The internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their own travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses. Those who are not citizens or permanent residents of Thailand may need to secure the appropriate visa and work authorization before starting the internship. It is important for successful candidates to discuss their specific visa requirements prior to accepting the internship offer. Additionally, it is emphasized that the United Nations does not charge any fees at any stage of the recruitment process, ensuring that the application process remains accessible and free of charge.
