Job Overview:
The Field Associate (IDP) position is crucial for supporting UNHCR's internal displacement strategy in Guerrero, Mexico. The incumbent will work under the supervision of a Senior Field Officer or Head of Office, performing various functions related to field activities. This role involves monitoring the situation of internally displaced persons (IDPs), collecting relevant data, and reporting findings to the supervisor. The Field Associate will also engage with local authorities, implementing partners, and the refugee community to ensure effective service delivery and problem resolution. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying and managing risks while contributing to the preparation of reports and assisting in administrative tasks. The ideal candidate should possess technical knowledge of internal displacement and protection frameworks, as well as the ability to adapt responses to the evolving context in Guerrero.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Field Associate include monitoring the situation in the Area of Responsibility (AoR), collecting data and information relevant to UNHCR, and reporting findings to the supervisor. The incumbent will monitor the implementation of UNHCR programs, including the delivery of assistance items and infrastructure monitoring. Regular site visits will be conducted to assess the needs of persons of concern, particularly vulnerable groups. The Field Associate will maintain regular contact with local authorities and implementing partners, act as an interpreter when needed, and contribute to the preparation of status and progress reports. Administrative tasks such as report preparation and assisting authorized personnel during field missions will also be part of the role. The incumbent will inform and act on reports received regarding persons of concern and assist in the reception, registration, and provision of assistance to these individuals. Negotiation with local authorities and representation of UNHCR in physical monitoring of projects are also key responsibilities.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a minimum of three years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or two years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Essential qualifications include knowledge of English and the UN working language of the duty station, as well as local languages. Candidates should possess functional skills such as IT literacy, drafting and documentation, multi-stakeholder communications, and program management. Completion of UNHCR learning programs or specific training relevant to the position is desirable, along with field experience in UNHCR operations.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a High School Diploma as a minimum, with a Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Business Administration, Law, or Political Science being advantageous. Candidates must have qualifications recognized by accredited institutions listed in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant field experience, particularly in monitoring activities, conducting site visits, and supporting program implementation. Familiarity with international protection principles related to internal displacement and human rights law is essential. Experience in emergency preparedness and response, including conducting risk analysis in complex environments, is also desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Spanish is mandatory, with the ability to draft and communicate effectively in both languages. Knowledge of local languages in Guerrero would be an asset. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to interact sensitively with persons of concern and communicate relevant issues to a diverse audience.
