Job Overview: The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager will oversee the implementation of environmental, health, and safety programs, focusing on environmental control and fostering a strong occupational health and safety culture within the organization. This role is crucial for ensuring that CIMMYT adheres to both local laws and global standards regarding EHS governance. The EHS Manager will be responsible for conducting regular risk assessments, emergency preparedness, and internal audits, while also updating institutional EHS policies and procedures to align with international best practices and donor requirements. The position requires a proactive approach to workplace health monitoring, hazard identification, and preventive programs across headquarters, regional offices, and country offices. The EHS Manager will lead the annual EHS planning cycle and monitor legal compliance across all operational countries, ensuring that the organization's health and safety management systems support its corporate social responsibility initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the implementation of environmental, health, and safety programs focusing on environmental control and occupational health and safety culture.
Ensure overall corporate institutional EHS governance, conducting regular risk assessments, emergency preparedness, and internal audits in accordance with local laws and global standards.
Update institutional EHS policies, procedures, and standards to ensure alignment with international best practices and donor requirements.
Provide oversight of workplace health monitoring, hazard identification, and preventive programs across headquarters, regional offices, and country offices.
Monitor regional EHS implementation plans and lead the annual EHS planning cycle.
Ensure legal compliance across all countries where CIMMYT operates.
Supervise the delivery of medical services, including monitoring health risks such as epidemics and managing wellness data via the EHS dashboard.
Ensure that environmental, health, and safety management system programs are aligned with institutional goals and support Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Coordinate institutional responses to significant compliance findings and ensure effective communication with stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
3–6 years of experience in EHS management.
Occupational Health and Safety certification or diploma is required.
Experience working across multiple countries and cultures is essential.
Strong analytical and information management skills are necessary for effective performance in this role.
Strong collaboration and stakeholder management capabilities are crucial for success in this position.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office environment is required.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary technical knowledge and skills to effectively manage environmental health and safety programs.
Experience: The position requires 3 to 6 years of relevant experience in environmental health and safety management. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in diverse environments and managing EHS programs effectively across multiple countries and cultures. Experience in operational risk management and emergency response is also critical for this role.
Languages: Advanced proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. This proficiency is essential for effective communication and collaboration with cross-functional teams and stakeholders. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
Additional Notes: CIMMYT offers an attractive remuneration package that includes support for continuous professional development. In addition to the provisions of the Mexican Labor Law, the benefits package includes a year-end bonus equivalent to 40 days of salary, a vacation premium of 56%, life and medical insurance, supermarket coupons, a savings fund, and social benefits in accordance with Mexican regulations (IMSS, SAR / Infonavit).
