Job Overview:
The IDB Country Office in the Bahamas is seeking an active graduate student to join as an intern under the Consultant modality. This internship is a paid opportunity designed for university students from member countries to gain insights into development work and corporate management within the Bank. Interns will acquire professional experience through on-the-job learning, contributing to the Caribbean Country Department's efforts in promoting and developing country strategies and programming. The intern will engage in economic-operational research, database management, and analysis, as well as support administrative tasks as needed by the Country Representative. This role is crucial for assisting the Bahamas Country Office in achieving its development goals and enhancing its economic work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Data Collection Activities: Assist in conducting interviews and focus groups for qualitative data collection, including scheduling sessions, preparing interview guides, and taking notes.
  • Data Management: Enter and clean collected data, ensuring accurate data entry into databases or spreadsheets, organizing and securely storing data, and backing up data to prevent loss.
  • Data Analysis Support: Conduct preliminary data analysis, generate descriptive statistics, visualize data, and identify patterns and trends.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Contribute to drafting project reports, summarizing findings, creating charts and graphs, and preparing presentation materials for stakeholders.
  • Administrative and Logistical Support: Coordinate meetings, prepare agendas, take meeting minutes, and maintain project documentation, ensuring all records are up to date and well organized.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be active graduate students enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. program at an accredited university, with a background in economics, statistics, computer science, public administration, or a related field. They must also be citizens or legal residents of the Bahamas and not have family members working at the IDB or IDB Invest. Additionally, candidates should be first-time participants in the IDB Group's Internship Program and have completed at least 50% of their coursework by the time of application.

Educational Background:
The position requires candidates to be active graduate students in a relevant field such as economics, statistics, computer science, or public administration. The graduation date must be after the internship period, ensuring that candidates are still enrolled during the internship.

Experience:
Candidates should have some experience or coursework related to research design, quantitative data analysis, and data management. While specific prior work experience is not mandatory, familiarity with research methodologies and data handling is beneficial.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is required for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. A working knowledge of Spanish is preferred, as it is one of the Bank's additional official languages, which can enhance collaboration and communication with diverse teams.
