Job Overview: The Vocational Skills Trainer will play a crucial role in equipping refugee and host community participants with practical skills in bead-making and artisan crafts, as well as essential life skills and entrepreneurship competencies. This position aligns with the UNHCR MADE51 framework, which aims to support participants in producing high-quality, market-ready products that reflect their cultural heritage. The trainer will collaborate with Roots, a MADE51 social enterprise partner in Juba, to ensure that participants can access fair market opportunities and achieve sustainable livelihoods. The role involves conducting training needs assessments, developing training plans, delivering technical training, and providing life skills instruction. The trainer will also be responsible for donor reporting and engagement, ensuring that all activities align with the standards set by MADE51.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct a rapid assessment of trainees’ existing artisanal skills and cultural craft traditions to identify capacity gaps and recommend suitable training approaches.
Develop a detailed training schedule and workplan in collaboration with Roots, ensuring alignment with MADE51 quality and market-readiness standards.
Prepare structured lesson plans and session guides, and create learner-friendly training materials.
Distribute production kits to participants for beadwork and craft production, including necklaces, bracelets, earrings, and other accessories.
Incorporate participants' heritage patterns and cultural storytelling into products, ensuring quality control aligned with international market standards.
Provide technical life skills instruction covering communication, leadership, conflict resolution, time management, and professional conduct.
Prepare and submit high-quality donor reports within agreed timelines, maintaining regular communication with stakeholders such as WFP and UNICEF.
Support donor visits, audits, evaluations, and review missions as needed.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a degree or diploma in Vocational Skills Training in Art and Design, Fashion and Craft Design, Community Development, Entrepreneurship, Social Enterprise, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of 2 to 5 years of experience in beadwork and handicraft production, preferably with market-oriented production experience. Expertise in facilitating vocational and life skills training is essential, along with demonstrated experience working with NGOs, community groups, youth, or women. Experience in entrepreneurship coaching and market linkage development for artisan groups is advantageous, as is experience in a social enterprise context.
