Job Overview: The Driver position at FHI 360 UK-Nigeria is crucial for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for staff, consultants, visitors, equipment, and program materials within Abuja and its surrounding areas. The role involves supporting official movements between the Country Office, partner offices, government institutions, airports, hotels, guest houses, health facilities, warehouses, and other approved locations. The Driver is expected to comply with FHI 360 UK-Nigeria policies, safety standards, and fleet management procedures, ensuring that all transportation activities are conducted in a professional and secure manner. This position requires a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance and safety, as well as adherence to established protocols and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: checking the vehicle prior to use each morning and after use; ensuring that all items listed on the vehicle checklist and in the vehicle tools and materials inventory are present and functioning; reporting any defects or damage immediately; submitting monthly mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance reports to the head driver; ensuring all vehicle journeys are authorized in advance; recording every movement in the logbook at the start and completion of each journey; maintaining valid vehicle documents including insurance; securing keys and vehicle documents when not in use; ensuring all passengers use seat belts before the vehicle moves; driving FHI 360 vehicles within approved speed limits and adhering to fleet policy; reporting all incidents or accidents immediately; ensuring passenger safety; keeping to security protocols; and supporting logistics and warehouse assistants as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a qualified SSCE/NECO Certificate Examination. A minimum of four years of working experience as a driver with reputable organizations, such as international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), corporate entities, or government agencies, is required. Experience as a mechanic or auto-electrician is desirable, as is experience working in the North-central region or in relatively insecure locations. A valid National driving license is mandatory. Excellent verbal communication and listening skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate in English and Hausa. Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is also required.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of a secondary school certificate, specifically the SSCE or NECO. This foundational education is essential for understanding vehicle operation and maintenance, as well as for fulfilling the communication and reporting requirements of the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of four years of relevant experience working as a driver in reputable organizations. This experience should ideally include driving in various conditions and locations, with a preference for candidates who have worked in the North-central region of Nigeria or in areas that may present security challenges. Experience in vehicle maintenance or as a mechanic is also advantageous, as it contributes to the candidate's ability to manage minor repairs and vehicle diagnostics effectively.

Additional Notes: This position is full-time and is based in Abuja, Nigeria. The expected hiring salary range for this role is indexed to USD 3,550 to 4,200 annually, which includes basic salary and allowances. The final offer will take into account various factors such as relevant years of experience, educational background, internal equity, market pay, and budget considerations.
