Job Overview: The Refugee coordinator" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Support Coordinator plays a crucial role in assisting Palestine refugees from Syria (PRS) who are in Egypt. This position involves guiding and supporting PRS through the online registration process, which includes helping them with the necessary documentation, creating their e-accounts, and downloading their Family Registration Cards. The coordinator will also inform PRS about the assistance and services available to them while in Egypt. This role requires close coordination with various stakeholders, including the Palestinian Embassy in Cairo and the Relief and Social Services Department, to ensure that the needs of PRS are met effectively. The coordinator must stay informed about the political, social, economic, and cultural developments in Egypt and the region that may impact the refugee situation, and communicate these developments to the supervisor for further action. Additionally, the coordinator will support the implementation of assistance agreements and monitor their execution to ensure continuity of services for PRS. This position demands a proactive approach to follow up with partners and stakeholders to ensure timely responses to inquiries and to enhance assistance opportunities for PRS.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Refugee Support Coordinator will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Coordinating with the Palestinian Embassy and the Relief and Social Services Department to assist PRS with the online registration process.
Providing guidance on documentation requirements and creating e-accounts for PRS.
Informing PRS about available assistance and services while in Egypt.
Monitoring political, social, economic, and cultural developments in Egypt that affect the refugee situation and reporting significant changes to the supervisor.
Supporting the implementation of assistance agreements and monitoring their execution.
Acting as a focal point for various partners, including IOM, UNHCR, WFP, and the Palestinian Embassy, to ensure coordinated support for PRS.
Participating in interagency groupings to advocate for PRS inclusion in policy discussions.
Drafting correspondence and providing input for studies and reports in coordination with HQ departments.
Maintaining detailed records of PRS issues and assistance provided, and preparing statistics for internal and external use. 1
Managing the office hotline to respond to inquiries and disseminate accurate information through various communication channels. 1
Expanding the network of service providers to ensure effective referrals and timely support for PRS.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree from an accredited institution in fields related to refugee affairs, law, public or international relations, or similar areas. Additionally, candidates should have at least five years of experience working with refugees, vulnerable migrants, or individuals with complex needs. Experience in law or public affairs, particularly in a multicultural environment, is essential. Candidates should also have experience in inter-agency coordination and cooperation, as well as proficiency in standard software applications such as Office 36
Familiarity with the UN system and the Palestine refugee issue is desirable, along with an understanding of the challenges faced by refugees in Egypt.
Educational Background: A university degree from an accredited educational institution in refugee affairs, law, public or international relations, or related fields is required for this position. Experience in inter-agency coordination and cooperation is also necessary, as well as proficiency in using personal computers and standard software applications used by the Agency.
Languages: For this position, proficiency in English and Arabic is required, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Candidates must demonstrate a minimum level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in both languages according to the UN Language Framework. Knowledge of French is considered an asset but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: The contract type for this position is a Fixed Term Appointment for one year, which includes a probation period. There is a possibility of extension based on satisfactory performance and the availability of funds. The position is graded at Grade 15, with a monthly basic salary of $1,513.0
Additional benefits include a monthly Provident Fund contribution, compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave, and a dependency allowance if applicable. It is important to note that the Agency will not facilitate the issuance of work permits in Cairo, and without a valid work permit, the appointment may be rescinded. The selected candidate may be required to travel within the Agency's areas of operations in the Middle East. Preference will be given to registered Palestine refugees and candidates who can assist the Agency in achieving gender parity.
