Job Overview:
The position of Driver within the UNHCR Office is crucial for the effective transportation of authorized personnel and the delivery of essential documents and items. The Driver is expected to maintain the assigned UNHCR vehicle(s) in accordance with the technical guidance and specifications set by the organization. While the primary responsibility is to operate the official vehicles, the Driver may also be tasked with performing minor maintenance and repairs on the vehicles. The position involves regular interaction with UNHCR staff and external partners, including government authorities, which necessitates a professional demeanor and effective communication skills. The Driver must ensure that all vehicles are roadworthy and comply with established safety standards, contributing to the overall operational efficiency of the UNHCR Office.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver's duties include but are not limited to: driving UNHCR vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers, delivering and collecting documents and other items, and meeting official personnel at airports or other locations while facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required. The Driver is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, which includes checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, and ensuring that the vehicles are maintained to the highest security standards. Additionally, the Driver must perform minor repairs, arrange for major repairs when necessary, and keep the vehicle clean. In the event of an accident, the Driver must follow the established procedures and ensure that all necessary documentation is in order for passengers and cargo. The Driver is also expected to log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and maintenance activities, while strictly adhering to the security guidance provided by the supervisor and security focal point. Furthermore, the Driver should support the identification and management of risks and seek opportunities that may impact objectives in their area of responsibility, raising any concerns to the appropriate supervisor or functional colleagues.

Required Qualifications:
The minimum qualifications for this position include a valid driving license and knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Candidates should possess a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, with a completion of primary education or a high school diploma. Essential functional skills include a basic understanding of vehicle mechanical skills and driving rules and regulations. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the values and principles of UNHCR, including professionalism, integrity, and respect for diversity.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have completed primary education or possess a high school diploma or higher. While specific field(s) of education are not applicable for this position, a strong understanding of driving regulations and vehicle maintenance is essential.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in driving and vehicle maintenance. Candidates should have a proven track record of safely operating vehicles and adhering to traffic regulations. Experience in a similar role within an international organization or a governmental agency is desirable but not mandatory.

Languages:
For this position, knowledge of English is mandatory, and familiarity with the UN working language of the duty station is also required. For General Service jobs, proficiency in English and/or the UN working language of the duty station is necessary, while knowledge of the local language is considered an asset.
