The United Nations Office for Digital and Emerging Technologies (UN ODET) was established on January 1, 202
  • Its mission is to advise the senior leadership of the United Nations on key trends in technology, guiding the strategic approach taken by the Organization on such issues. UN ODET serves as an advocate and focal point for digital cooperation, engaging with Member States, the technology industry, civil society, and other stakeholders. The organization facilitates multi-stakeholder policy dialogue on digital and emerging technologies and strengthens system-wide coordination within and across the United Nations system on these topics. Additionally, it supports the follow-up and implementation of the Global Digital Compact, as outlined in A/RES/79/1 Annex
  • Through its leadership, UN ODET aims to implement the Secretary-General's vision on digital cooperation, working closely with various UN entities and multi-stakeholder groups to accelerate global digital cooperation while addressing the associated risks. The organization is committed to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and carries out other related duties as assigned by the Secretary-General, including follow-up actions from the Secretary-General's Roadmap for Digital Cooperation and the report "Our Common Agenda."

Job Overview:
The individual contractor will play a crucial role in the timely and effective delivery of UN ODET events by supporting various operational aspects such as planning, stakeholder coordination, logistics management, and event follow-up. The contractor's contributions will lead to stronger execution of meetings and engagements, improved coordination of event workflows, and organized documentation for internal reference and continuity. This position is particularly important during a period of increased activity within the office, as it will help ensure that events are executed smoothly and efficiently, thereby enhancing the overall impact of UN ODET's initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The individual contractor will be responsible for coordinating operational planning timelines and implementing assigned meetings, briefings, workshops, consultations, and outreach events. Key duties include preparing event documents such as checklists, speaker coordination notes, and implementation trackers. The contractor will maintain planning records and ensure timely circulation of key event information to relevant teams. Liaising with relevant teams, external participants, service providers, and venues will be essential to support smooth event preparation and delivery. The contractor will also assist with participant outreach, registration follow-up, briefings, speaking confirmations, and day-of logistics. Additional responsibilities include addressing implementation needs related to event space, virtual platforms, accessibility, materials, and troubleshooting during delivery. After each engagement, the contractor will compile event files, attendance or participant information, and supporting documents, as well as prepare concise post-event summaries, action trackers, and follow-up notes for internal use. The contractor will also support lessons learned documentation to strengthen event management workflows across the Office and perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level university degree in Communications, International Relations, Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field. Additionally, one year of experience in event coordination, project support, or administrative functions is required. Experience working with or supporting UN processes is also necessary. Strong organizational skills, including logistics management and preparation of meeting or event materials, are essential for this role.

Educational Background:
A first-level university degree in Communications, International Relations, Political Science, Public Administration, or a related degree is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of international relations and the operational aspects of event coordination within a global organization like the United Nations.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least one year of experience in event coordination, project support, or administrative functions. This experience should ideally include working with or supporting UN processes, which will provide valuable insights into the unique operational requirements and protocols of the United Nations.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both oral and written, is required for this position. Knowledge of French is highly desirable, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders and enhance the contractor's ability to engage in multi-lingual environments.
