The intern will work under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer and will be involved in various tasks that include supporting the testing and prototype development of indicators, conducting data collection and curation, and assisting with data analysis and visualization. This role is crucial for the preparation of the first GFC International Conference, where the intern will help in drafting relevant documentation and materials. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of duties including:
Contributing to the development of a high-level indicator on the environmental burden of chemicals and waste by supporting testing and prototype development.
Conducting data collection and curation, which involves identifying and consolidating relevant datasets.
Assisting with data analysis and visualization to ensure that the information is presented clearly and effectively.
Supporting work on target indicators for the Strategic Objectives of the GFC through data collection and validation.
Preparing documentation for the 1st GFC International Conference, including drafting background materials.
Providing logistical support for the delivery of the conference scheduled for November 16 to 20 in Geneva.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: (a) be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Additionally, applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s, or Ph.D. programme or have completed such programmes. While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a background in chemistry, environmental science, data science, or a related field. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of the environmental issues the internship addresses and for effectively contributing to the projects undertaken during the internship.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. This could include projects, research, or coursework that demonstrates a commitment to the field of environmental science or data management.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
