Job Overview:
The intern will support the Policy and Public Finance for Children (PPF4C) Programme by updating budget data, which includes data entry, structuring data, and translating documents from Khmer to English. The role is crucial in assisting UNICEF's efforts to analyze budget allocations and execution related to children's needs, particularly in the context of the Public Financial Management Reform Programme launched by the Royal Government of Cambodia. The intern will engage in activities that contribute to the implementation of performance-informed budgeting and will be involved in analyzing budget data to inform policy discussions and recommendations for improving child rights and welfare.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct data entry of budget laws and relevant documents into an Excel-based budget database.
  • Assist in the structuring of budget data for analysis and monitoring purposes.
  • Translate documents from Khmer to English to facilitate understanding and accessibility of budget information.
  • Support the analysis of budget data to identify gaps and propose interventions aimed at addressing multidimensional child poverty.
  • Collaborate with UNICEF staff and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and implementation of the PPF4C Programme.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions related to public finance management and budget analysis.
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports and presentations based on budget analysis findings.

Required Qualifications:
  • A strong interest in public finance management, particularly in budget analysis and advocacy.
  • Proficiency in using computer software for data analysis and presentation, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint. Familiarity with AI tools and data visualization tools like Power BI is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and Khmer.
  • Strong analytical skills and a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment and adapt to diverse working conditions.

Educational Background:
Candidates should be students who have graduated from a Bachelor’s Degree or are in their final year of a Bachelor’s Degree program, or currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in relevant fields such as economics, development studies, social science, or other related disciplines.

Experience:
The position is suitable for candidates who may not have extensive professional experience but should possess a strong academic background and a keen interest in public finance and child welfare issues. Previous internships or volunteer experiences related to economics, public policy, or social sciences would be advantageous but are not mandatory.

Languages:
Mandatory languages include proficiency in English and excellence in Khmer. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset but is not required.

Additional Notes:
The internship is expected to last for a period of 6 months, with full-time availability required from Monday to Friday. National interns may receive a monthly stipend of USD 300, subject to external funding availability. Additionally, interns may be reimbursed up to USD 100 for eligible costs such as insurance or other internship-related expenses. UNICEF will provide necessary equipment, including a laptop and access to office space. Interns are entitled to 2.5 days of leave per month during the internship.
