Job Overview: The Office Driver at FHI 360 plays a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of staff, consultants, and visitors to various destinations within Uganda. This position requires a commitment to maintaining the vehicle in excellent condition, ensuring safety and compliance with all regulations. The driver is expected to assist clients during their entry and exit from the vehicle, demonstrating courtesy and professionalism at all times. The role also involves planning routes based on schedules or ad-hoc requests, ensuring that all necessary documentation related to the vehicle is current and in order. The driver must adhere to road safety regulations and may be required to fulfill special requests, such as delivering items or running errands. This position is vital for the smooth operation of the office and contributes significantly to the overall mission of FHI 360.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Transport FHI 360 STRIDES Country Office staff, consultants, and visitors to designated approved locations safely and efficiently.
Ensure the safety, cleanliness, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and maintenance of the vehicle at all times.
Perform day-to-day maintenance of the vehicle, including timely oil changes, inspections, brakes, and tire pressure checks.
Make arrangements for major repairs when necessary and ensure all required vehicle documents are up to date, including insurance and vehicle logs.
Plan routes and requirements based on the office schedule or ad-hoc requests.
Ensure that all passengers adhere to road safety regulations during transportation.
Fulfill special requests by picking up and delivering items as directed and running errands as needed.
Provide protection for clients in locations deemed high risk.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or Uganda Advance Education Certificate (UACE) is required.
A defensive driving certificate is mandatory.
A valid driving license and a clean driving record are essential.
Experience in the operation of large vehicles is preferred, or an equivalent combination of experience and training is acceptable.
Strong knowledge of road safety regulations and vehicle maintenance practices is required.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess at least a High School Diploma or Uganda Advance Education Certificate (UACE). Additional certifications related to defensive driving are highly desirable and may be required for the position.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in driving a project vehicle, preferably for donor-funded projects. Experience in operating large vehicles is advantageous, and candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety protocols.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization. Knowledge of local languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with clients and communities served.
Additional Notes: This position is full-time and based in Kampala, Uganda. The expected hiring salary range for this role is UGX 16,000,000 - 20,000,000 annually for basic salary.
