Job Overview:
The Climate Adaptation Expert will play a pivotal role in shaping climate adaptation and resilience strategies within the mobility sector. This position requires the expert to provide guidance to specialists in the Mobility Department on both lending and advisory operations. The expert will be involved in the review and implementation of the Adaptation Strategy, supporting project-level due diligence, and collaborating with fellow Climate Experts to develop impactful solutions. The role emphasizes a high degree of autonomy and the opportunity to act as a connector between technical experts and management, ensuring that climate adaptation considerations are integrated into the Department's work. The expert will also represent the EIB in discussions with key stakeholders and at relevant events, enhancing the visibility and influence of the bank's climate adaptation initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Climate Adaptation Expert will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: collaborating with Heads of Division and Mobility experts to provide trusted advice on adaptation and resilience; supporting due diligence for operations exposed to high physical climate risks; contributing to policy and advisory work, particularly the 2026 review of the EIB’s Adaptation Strategy; offering practical expertise on climate-adapted transport infrastructure; ensuring projects align with environmental, climate, and social standards; engaging with various departments to implement the Bank’s climate risk assessment system; managing consultancy support effectively; building a strong internal knowledge base on climate adaptation; and developing external partnerships to advance the EIB’s climate adaptation work.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree (minimum equivalent to a bachelor level) in a relevant field such as engineering or economics, with additional qualifications in environmental or climate science being preferable. A minimum of 5 years of experience is required, combining project preparation or appraisal experience with practical knowledge of implementing climate resilience and adaptation in projects. The ability to coordinate effectively across multiple departments and manage complex projects is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent collaboration skills and alignment with organizational objectives.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a university degree in a relevant subject, such as engineering or economics. Additional qualifications related to environmental or climate science are preferred, indicating a strong foundation in the principles of climate adaptation and resilience.

Experience:
The position requires at least 5 years of relevant experience, which should include a combination of project preparation or appraisal and practical experience in integrating climate resilience and adaptation into projects. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing complex projects that necessitate cooperation and integration of expertise from various teams.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, and a good command of French is also required. Knowledge of other EU languages would be considered a distinct advantage. Proficiency in both English and French is essential for career development within the EIB, as both languages are official working languages of the bank.
