Job Overview: The Associate Communication Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the Man and Biosphere (MAB) Programme, which is an intergovernmental scientific initiative aimed at enhancing the relationship between people and their environments. This position involves the development and implementation of communication and advocacy strategies for various extrabudgetary projects under the MAB Programme. The officer will work closely with the Director of the Division of Ecological and Earth Sciences and the Chief of Section of MAB Networking, ensuring effective communication across multiple platforms to raise awareness and visibility of the projects. The role requires a proactive approach to engage with diverse audiences and stakeholders, utilizing various media channels to promote the Division's initiatives and achievements.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for a wide range of duties including: developing and producing communication materials to enhance project visibility; designing and implementing public awareness campaigns; monitoring and evaluating communication activities; preparing analytical reports on project outputs and achievements; maintaining information networks and ensuring the availability of accessible materials; supporting the production of written communication materials such as online news items, reports, and brochures; contributing to content development for websites and social media; collaborating with communication officers and Programme Specialists; participating in inter-agency communication forums; and facilitating information exchange among colleagues and partners.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in communication, journalism, public relations, or a relevant field. Additionally, a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in advocacy and communication is required, with at least one year at the international level. Strong analytical, drafting, and editing skills in English and either French or Spanish are essential, along with the ability to adapt communication styles for different audiences and articulate socio-environmental issues effectively. Proficiency in website management and social media channels, as well as excellent computer skills, including knowledge of Drupal 8 and Adobe Premiere Pro, are also required.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in communication, journalism, public relations, or a relevant field is mandatory for this position. This educational background is crucial as it provides the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for effective communication and advocacy in a complex international environment.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience in advocacy and communication, with a preference for candidates who have at least one year of experience acquired at the international level.
