Job Overview:
The Translator (English) position is critical within the Strategy, Engagement and Institutional Relations (SEIR) Unit of EUROCONTROL. This role involves translating a wide range of documents from French and other languages into English, ensuring that all translations maintain the integrity and clarity of the original text. The selected candidate will be responsible for proofreading and simplifying complex documents, often created by non-native English speakers, to ensure they are accessible to a broad audience. The role also includes revising translations from colleagues and external providers, maintaining multilingual databases, and contributing to the optimization of workflows and the use of AI tools in translation processes. The position requires a proactive approach to managing translation requests and providing linguistic support to stakeholders, ensuring that all communications are accurate and effective.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Translator (English) include: processing requests for translation and proofreading, confirming formatting requirements and deadlines, translating administrative, legal, financial, and technical documents into English, simplifying and proofreading complex texts, revising translations from team members and external providers, assisting other language teams with understanding complex English texts, maintaining multilingual databases and glossaries, contributing to workflow optimization and AI tool usage, providing linguistic advice, administering language testing for new recruits, and performing any other tasks aligned with the job's main purpose.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet one of the following qualifications: completion of third-level studies in a relevant domain (e.g., translation or modern languages) at EQF Level 7 with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience, or completion of third-level studies in a relevant domain at EQF Level 6 with at least 4 years of relevant professional experience. Proficiency in CAT tools and experience with machine translation and AI tools are essential, with a significant asset being proficiency in Trados Studio. Candidates should also demonstrate analytical thinking, customer focus, results orientation, quality focus, planning and organizing skills, and the ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Educational Background:

Candidates must have a perfect command of English (C2 level, mother tongue or equivalent) and be proficient in French at level C

Additional Notes:
The position is a full-time role with a duration of 5 years, subject to renewal or conversion under specific conditions. The selected candidate will be required to undergo a probationary period of nine months before being established in the post. The role operates under a hybrid working model, allowing for a combination of onsite and remote work, although full-time remote work is not permitted.
