Job Overview:
The consultant will support and coordinate the scoping phase of the Nature for Health initiative in Kenya, which aims to improve understanding of the links between environmental health and human and animal health. The consultant will facilitate stakeholder engagement, organize workshops, and co-create an Implementation Project Document that outlines the activity plan and budget for the initiative. This role involves working closely with various stakeholders to establish a common vision and commitment to collaboration, while also producing technical materials and dialogues that support broader UNEP projects related to biodiversity and health. The consultant will also contribute to the development of innovative economic tools for conservation and promote the biodiversity economy approach in various landscapes, ultimately aiming to enhance planetary health and prevent future pandemics.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plan and organize stakeholders' workshops to assess the environmental aspects of One Health and Nature for Health in Kenya, ensuring active participation and productive discussions.
  • Maintain communication with stakeholders throughout the process, co-facilitating the development of the N4H partnership and its programmatic structure.
  • Design the Implementation Project Document for the N4H initiative, gathering contributions from meetings and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Manage project planning and documentation, preparing reports and maintaining accurate records as required by UNEP.
  • Develop internal reports on case studies and best practices related to biodiversity economy, identifying gaps and opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.
  • Coordinate policy dialogue sessions on bioeconomy at international events, engaging stakeholders to share lessons learned and facilitate discussions.
  • Draft proposals and baseline reports to support resource mobilization and inform project designs, ensuring alignment with UNEP's objectives and strategies.

Required Qualifications:
An advanced university degree (MSc level or higher) in social, behavioral, or management sciences is required. A first-level degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. A minimum of 5 years of postgraduate work experience in project management and organizational partnership building in diverse multi-stakeholder environments is required. Experience in organizing and coordinating workshops, cross-sectoral partnership building, and communication is essential. Demonstrated experience in sustainable use of biodiversity and landscapes management is desirable, along with experience in developing project documents and intervention strategies.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (MSc level or higher) in the social, behavioral, or management sciences. Alternatively, a first-level degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of environmental health and biodiversity management.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of postgraduate work experience in project management and organizational partnership building, particularly in diverse multi-stakeholder environments. Candidates should have experience in organizing workshops and processes for stakeholders across various sectors, as well as demonstrated experience in communication, planning, and reporting. Experience in sustainable use of biodiversity and landscapes management is highly desirable, along with a proven track record in project management and programming for sustainable development.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written English is required for this position, as it is the official working language of the United Nations. A working knowledge of another UN language is considered an advantage, and knowledge of local languages spoken in Kenya is also beneficial.

Additional Notes:
The position is expected to last for 12 months, with the possibility of extension based on project needs and funding availability. The consultant will work full-time and is expected to engage with stakeholders both nationally and internationally.
