Job Overview: The Multimedia and Digital Asset ManagementSupport Consultant role at UN Women is designed to provide on-site multimedia coverage, which includes still photography and in-studio video recording. The consultant will be responsible for the optimization and delivery of multimedia assets, as well as preparing, assessing, optimizing, uploading, and distributing digital assets such as photos, videos, and multimedia content. This position is crucial for maintaining the visibility of UN Women and ensuring that multimedia products are produced to a high standard. The consultant will work closely with the Photographer/Photo Editor and collaborate with the Multimedia Specialist and a Digital Asset Management Consultant to support the creation and organization of UN Women’s assets in a secure, centralized repository. The role requires a strong understanding of metadata usage, compliance with security standards, and the ability to ensure ease of content reusability.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for managing metadata for digital assets within the UN Women Multimedia Library, which includes uploading and reviewing photos, videos, and design files. The consultant will provide photo and video coverage and editing for various events, bilateral meetings, video messages, and other assignments as directed by the Communications and Advocacy Division or delegated focal points. The consultant must be present in the office on all workdays to respond to coverage requests and submit deliverables on the same day. Photography assignments will require the inclusion of metadata in all photographs, and the best photographs must be edited and optimized in high resolution according to the provided workflow. Video assignments will involve setup, filming, and light editing. The consultant will also organize digital assets, implementing best practices for file naming, classification, metadata tagging, and searchability, and assist with the review of digital assets for quality and compliance with UN Women standards. Other responsibilities include applying UN Women’s technical, ethical, and editorial standards to maximize asset quality, assisting with digital asset inventory, usage, and permissions, and performing other tasks as required by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a Master’s degree or equivalent in multimedia, visual design, photography, videography, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Certification in photography, videography, communications, or information science would be an added advantage. The consultant must demonstrate proficiency in both photo and video coverage, as evidenced by a portfolio submission or technical test, and familiarity with digital asset management systems and software is essential. Proficiency in image optimization with Photoshop and metadata management with Photo Mechanic software is required, along with outstanding organizational and time-management skills and high attention to detail. Familiarity with gender issues is considered an important asset.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in multimedia, visual design, photography, videography, or a related field. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by two additional years of relevant experience. Additional certifications in photography, videography, communications, or information science are advantageous.
Experience: A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience is required for this position. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to handle multimedia coverage and digital asset management effectively.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position. Knowledge of any other UN official language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is a full-time office-based position at UN Women HQ in New York. The consultant is expected to be present in the office on all workdays to be available for coverage requests and to submit deliverables for assignments on a same-day basis. UN Women will provide multimedia equipment, hardware, and software, as well as technical, ethical, and editorial guidance to the consultant. Access to training on the UN Women Multimedia Library platform will also be provided, along with support and guidance on deliverables as appropriate.
