Job Overview: The Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Associate will be a key member of the UNFPA Country Office in Port Sudan, working directly under the supervision of the M&E Specialist. This position is integral to the implementation of UNFPA's strategic goals, which include ending preventable maternal deaths, addressing unmet needs for family planning, and combating gender-based violence. The M&E Associate will support the development and strengthening of monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning systems, ensuring that UNFPA's programs are evidence-based and effectively integrated into national frameworks and humanitarian response plans. The role requires a proactive approach to data management and reporting, as well as collaboration with various teams within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The M&E Associate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Coordination and Results-Based Management (RBM): - Tracking project metrics and applying RBM principles to data entry and reporting. - Gathering data to ensure program delivery aligns with the Country Programme Document, UNFPA Strategic Plan, donor requirements, and national frameworks. - Supporting the coordination of results planning and reporting across the office.
Knowledge Management Support: - Assisting in the digitalization of knowledge management for ongoing programs, support, and M&E activities. - Organizing and formatting the collection, systematization, and dissemination of knowledge products, good practices, and lessons learned.
Follow-Up and Capacity Building: - Supporting the M&E Specialist in enhancing the capacity of Country Office staff and implementing partners regarding monitoring, evaluation, reporting, and learning concepts. - Following up with implementing partners on regular quantitative and qualitative reporting requirements. - Assisting in preparing, collecting, and updating templates and best practices, such as checklists, mission findings, and action trackers.
Framework Maintenance and Updating: - Maintaining and routinely updating M&E master files related to service locations, monitoring activities, data reporting mechanisms, information frameworks, and work plans.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of monitoring and evaluation principles, particularly in the context of development and humanitarian work. They should demonstrate proficiency in data management and analysis, as well as familiarity with Results-Based Management (RBM) frameworks. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Candidates should also exhibit a commitment to UNFPA's mission and values, including gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in social sciences, public health, statistics, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in monitoring and evaluation, public health, or related disciplines are highly desirable and may enhance a candidate's competitiveness for the position.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in monitoring and evaluation, preferably within the context of international development or humanitarian assistance. Experience working with UN agencies or similar organizations is an advantage. Familiarity with data collection methods, analysis, and reporting is essential, as well as experience in capacity building and training of staff and partners.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable, given the context of the position in Sudan. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if they are relevant to the local population.
