Job Overview: The Health and Safety Unit Operational Support role is designed to provide essential operational support to the Health and Safety Unit (HSU) within the EBRD. The role holder will be responsible for executing a variety of operational tasks that are critical to the effective functioning of the HSU. This includes working closely with the Health and Safety Unit Advisors and the Head of Health and Safety, while also being able to work independently. The position requires the delivery of routine tasks in accordance with established procedures, responding to straightforward queries, and collating data for regular reporting and basic trend analysis. The role is integral to supporting continuous improvement in service quality and process efficiency within the organization. The incumbent will also assist in the implementation of global health and safety programs and will be expected to meet specific objectives that will be set annually and monitored through the Bank’s performance and development framework.
Duties and Responsibilities: The role holder will be responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to: 1) Delivering administrative activities to ensure the efficient operation of global Health and Safety programs, which include monitoring the Group H&S Mailbox, developing and tracking HSU program action plans, assisting with health and safety training logistics, maintaining training records, and overseeing the logistics of the Bank’s medical suite. 2) Collating data to support reporting for various forums, conducting trend analysis to inform HSU strategy, and monitoring audit report findings. 3) Maintaining the HSU intranet page and ServiceNow tool to ensure clear guidance is accessible. 4) Preparing risk assessments and conducting research to assist with drafting H&S guidance. 5) Investigating incidents and ensuring proper reporting and communication with relevant teams. The role requires a proactive approach to support the HSU during crisis situations and contribute to the overall safety culture within the organization.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must hold an introductory level health and safety qualification, such as the NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or an equivalent. Additionally, candidates should have entry-level membership to IOSH or a recognized equivalent body. A commitment to continuous professional development is essential, along with an understanding of health, safety, and welfare requirements in the workplace. Candidates should demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. A high degree of integrity and confidentiality in handling client requests is crucial.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a basic understanding of health and safety principles, typically demonstrated through an introductory level qualification in health and safety. Candidates should also have a foundational knowledge of workplace hazards and control methods, which can be acquired through formal education or training programs.
Experience: This is an entry-level role, and while some candidates may not have demonstrable occupational safety and health (OSH) experience, any relevant experience in a higher-risk environment such as construction, manufacturing, or facilities management will be considered advantageous. Candidates with one year of experience in health and safety or related volunteering activities will be preferred.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. While not required, proficiency in a second language would be considered a valuable asset.
