Job Overview:
The Communications Officer position at WFP Palestine is crucial for supporting the organization's communication efforts in a region facing significant humanitarian challenges. The role involves performing coordination, administrative, and specialized communications processes to enhance WFP's visibility and reputation. The officer will be responsible for creating, planning, and publishing communications content, as well as managing media relations to support fundraising activities. This position is particularly important in the context of Palestine, where the humanitarian situation has deteriorated due to ongoing violence and conflict. The officer will work closely with various teams to ensure effective communication strategies are implemented, thereby contributing to the overall mission of WFP in providing life-saving assistance to vulnerable populations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Communications Officer will undertake a variety of duties, including but not limited to: providing coordination and administrative support for communications campaigns; monitoring and coordinating materials, schedules, and facilities for special events; developing systems to track traditional and social media coverage; liaising with local journalists and media outlets to enhance WFP's visibility; supporting program teams in reviewing communications materials; preparing content for various media platforms; building capacity among WFP staff on communication best practices; managing records and databases related to media contacts; responding to queries and requests for support; and performing any other tasks as required by the Head of Communications.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in communications, with specific qualifications including media and communication expertise, the ability to manage media relationships, and specialized knowledge in communications concepts and tools. The role requires a sound understanding of WFP's communications strategy and the ability to implement tailored media plans. Candidates should also demonstrate an understanding of the socio-political context in which WFP operates, particularly in relation to humanitarian and development issues.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of secondary school education. However, a post-secondary certificate in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or a related field is highly desirable and will enhance a candidate's suitability for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in the field of communications. Experience working in the media, or for the United Nations or non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is highly desirable, as it provides valuable insights into the operational context of WFP's work.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing communication capabilities within diverse communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered under a Service Contract for a duration of 12 months, with the possibility of renewal. It is specifically open to nationals who possess a legal permit or ID to work in Jerusalem.
