Job Overview: The Security Coordination Officer will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of IIIM personnel and operations. This position involves direct supervision by the Head of the Mechanism and requires a proactive approach to security management. The incumbent will be responsible for analyzing security threats, developing risk management strategies, and coordinating security operations. The role also includes delivering training to staff, liaising with local authorities, and implementing security plans across all IIIM program areas. The Security Coordination Officer must be adept at navigating complex security environments and must possess strong analytical and communication skills to effectively manage security risks and ensure the safety of personnel and assets.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Security Coordination Officer will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including serving as an adviser on security risk management matters, participating in the Security Management Team, and forecasting the evolving security environment. The incumbent will support planning efforts by utilizing analytical techniques and collaborative research to enhance security programs. Key duties include preparing and implementing security planning documents, providing written analysis of security trends, advising on security inclusion in UN activities, overseeing security-related projects, and enhancing communication and collaboration with stakeholders. The officer will also conduct security surveys, manage the security team, and ensure compliance with gender and diversity considerations in security practices. Additionally, the role requires the collection and analysis of data to identify trends and support decision-making processes.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in security management, with knowledge of military, law enforcement, or other security specializations. The ability to analyze and interpret data effectively is crucial, as is the capacity to manage stress in high-pressure situations. A diploma from a police or military institution may also be considered in lieu of a degree, provided it was obtained over a minimum of three years.
Experience: A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in security, conflict resolution, crime or terrorism prevention, and emergency management is required. At least two years of experience in field operations is essential, along with relevant work experience in the Middle East. Candidates should have security-related experience in tribunals or accountability mechanisms, and familiarity with contingency planning and crisis management is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related fields is also beneficial.
Languages: The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French. For this position, proficiency in English and Arabic is required, with French being desirable. Candidates must demonstrate a high level of proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in these languages, as per the UN Language Framework.
