Job Overview:
The Urban Planner position is designed to provide technical support to UN-Habitat's initiatives in Mozambique. The role involves planning and designing outputs that align with the organization's mission to promote sustainable urban development. The Urban Planner will work closely with the Urban Lab team, coordinating efforts with the Mozambique Country Office. The position requires the individual to prepare various materials for workshops, engage with city and county officials, and contribute to the drafting and completion of planning materials. The Urban Planner will also participate in technical missions as needed, ensuring that the outputs meet the standards and expectations set by UN-Habitat.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Urban Planner will be responsible for a range of duties including: preparing materials such as presentations, maps, and drawings for workshops with city and county officials and technical staff in Mozambique; drafting, revising, and completing planning materials, including spatial analysis and drawings, as well as reports; collaborating with the Urban Lab team and the Mozambique Country Office; and participating in technical missions if required. The role demands a proactive approach to urban planning and the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with various stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in Architecture, Urban Planning and Design, or a related field relevant to sustainable urban development. Additionally, candidates should have at least five years of proven experience in preparing graphical materials using computer-assisted design tools, with a strong emphasis on data management and processing using GIS software. This combination of education and experience is crucial for fulfilling the responsibilities of the Urban Planner role effectively.

Educational Background:
The educational requirement for this position is an advanced university degree, specifically a Master's degree or its equivalent, in fields such as Architecture, Urban Planning and Design, or other related disciplines that contribute to sustainable urban development. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of urban planning and design.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant work experience. This experience should include a proven track record in drawing and preparing graphical materials using computer-assisted design tools. Candidates should also have experience in data management and processing, particularly with GIS software, which is critical for the role's responsibilities.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within UN-Habitat. Additionally, fluency in Portuguese is desirable, as it will facilitate communication and collaboration with local stakeholders in Mozambique.
