Job Overview: The Finance Assistant position is based in Bunia and involves supporting the finance department in managing accounting systems, policies, and procedures in accordance with established CRS accounting standards, generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), donor regulations, and legal requirements. The role is crucial in ensuring the delivery of quality programs aimed at assisting poor and vulnerable populations. The Finance Assistant will work within an experienced financial team, participating in the coordination of daily financial activities, from preparation to the provision of financial services. This position requires a proactive approach to financial management and compliance, ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately processed and reported.
Duties and Responsibilities: Key responsibilities include reviewing and verifying financial transaction documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness, contributing to the maintenance of updated data necessary for processing financial transactions in the Insight financial accounting software, recording delegated financial transactions post-authorization, examining various accounts for irregularities, and assisting in evaluating the financial management processes of sub-recipients in line with existing policies. The Finance Assistant will also prepare delegated financial reports as needed and help disseminate information to sub-recipients and staff regarding accounting policies and procedural compliance. Additionally, the role may involve up to 25% travel to project implementation areas.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should have a strong background in finance or accounting, preferably with experience in an international or local NGO, or in a financial/banking institution. Knowledge of public donor regulations and financial reporting software is considered an asset. The position requires excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment. Candidates must demonstrate personal accountability, integrity, and a commitment to the mission and values of CRS.
Educational Background: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree (bac+3) in accounting, finance, economics, or business administration is strongly preferred. Additional coursework in accounting or a professional accounting qualification (CPA/ACCA or equivalent) is also required. Candidates with relevant educational qualifications may substitute for some experience requirements.
Experience: A minimum of five years of experience in accounting is required. However, additional studies or qualifications may substitute for some of the required experience. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of financial management principles and practices, as well as the ability to apply these in a practical context.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, while proficiency in Swahili is considered an asset. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages will enhance collaboration with local partners and stakeholders.
