Job Overview:
The Landscape Planning and Design Specialist will provide technical expertise in landscape planning and design specifically for the Park City Initiative Project and other related activities within the Public Space and Urban Regeneration Team. This role involves conducting research on nature-positive urban planning and green infrastructure, developing concept notes and reports for international events, and coordinating with various teams within UN-Habitat. The specialist will work closely with the Planning and Finance Section to support urban planning initiatives and ensure the successful implementation of the project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for several key duties, including: conducting research on urban planning and green infrastructure, developing concept notes and event reports, communicating with relevant teams and offices, and providing overall support to the Public Space and Urban Regeneration team. The specialist will also be expected to monitor urban SDG progress and contribute technical advice to broader initiatives within UN-Habitat. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure effective dissemination of project products and alignment with organizational goals.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master’s or equivalent) in Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Policy, Development Studies, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. At least two years of relevant work experience in urban planning, urban design, landscape planning, or ecological design is required. Experience with international organizations is considered desirable.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Urban Planning, Landscape Architecture, or Development Studies is essential for this position. Candidates with a first-level university degree and additional qualifying experience may also be considered. This educational background ensures that the specialist has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to urban planning and design initiatives.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant work experience in urban planning, urban design, landscape planning, or ecological design. Experience working with international organizations is preferred, as it demonstrates the ability to navigate complex project environments and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written English and Chinese is mandatory for this role. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a multilingual environment and engage with a broader range of stakeholders.
