Job Overview: The National United Nations Volunteer (UNV) Reporting and Communication Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the PROMIS project, which aims to enhance the human rights-based response to migrant smuggling in West Africa. The incumbent will be responsible for preparing donor reports and reports on the human rights situation in the countries where the PROMIS project is implemented. This position requires close collaboration with project staff and involves drafting, reviewing, and editing periodic reports that focus on the human rights of migrants. The Reporting and Communication Officer will also contribute to improving the visibility of the PROMIS project through various communication strategies and actions, including the production of multimedia content and communication products. The role emphasizes the integration of gender perspectives in all activities and the maintenance of databases and archival systems.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including: preparing donor reports and reports on the human rights situation in PROMIS project countries; drafting, reviewing, and editing periodic reports on the human rights of migrants; contributing to the preparation of briefing notes and background materials for meetings with external partners; maintaining databases and archival systems; developing and implementing a communication strategy for the PROMIS project; producing multimedia content for online platforms; liaising with advocacy partners and civil society organizations; evaluating the impact of communication activities; and performing any other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to draft and edit reports and other materials effectively. They should demonstrate creativity in developing communication strategies and materials. The role requires excellent organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders. A strong understanding of human rights issues, particularly related to migration, is essential. Additionally, candidates should be culturally sensitive and adaptable to the local context in Senegal.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in communications, social sciences, international relations, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in human rights, migration, or communication would be an asset.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of one year of relevant experience in communications, reporting, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of human rights or migration, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and its operations would be an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is mandatory, as these are the primary languages of communication within the organization and the region. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the West African context would be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is a National UN Youth Volunteer assignment, which means that the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The contract duration is subject to availability of funding and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The volunteer will receive a monthly living allowance to cover housing and living expenses, along with life, health, and permanent disability insurance. In hardship duty stations, a Well-Being Differential (WBD) will be provided monthly.
