Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNHCR involves not only driving official vehicles but also ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of these vehicles in accordance with the technical guidance and specifications established by the organization. The incumbent will be supervised by the Administrative Officer or another designated staff member. The driver will be responsible for transporting authorized personnel, delivering and collecting documents, and performing minor maintenance and repairs on the vehicles. This position is crucial for facilitating the smooth operation of UNHCR's activities and ensuring that staff can travel safely and efficiently. The driver will also engage with various stakeholders, including government authorities and partners, which necessitates a professional demeanor and effective communication skills. The incumbent is expected to log official trips, maintain records of vehicle usage, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Driver include: driving UNHCR vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers, delivering and collecting documents and other items; meeting official personnel at airports or other locations and facilitating immigration and customs formalities; performing day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires; ensuring that the vehicles are roadworthy and maintained according to established security standards; performing minor repairs and arranging for other repairs as necessary; keeping the vehicle clean; logging official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and maintenance activities; ensuring compliance with rules and regulations in case of accidents; following instructions and security guidance from supervisors; ensuring valid documentation for passengers and cargo; supporting risk management and decision-making processes; and performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Driver position include a valid driving license and knowledge of driving rules and regulations. The candidate must have a minimum of two years of relevant experience, with completion of primary education or a high school diploma. Essential functional skills include basic vehicle mechanical skills and a thorough understanding of driving rules and regulations. The candidate should demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and a commitment to safety and security protocols.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes completion of primary education or a high school diploma. While specific field(s) of education are not applicable, the candidate must possess a valid driving license and relevant certifications related to driving.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant driving experience. However, the desired candidate profile indicates that a minimum of five years of professional driving experience in Karachi is preferred. Experience operating armored vehicles is mandatory, along with a sound knowledge of UN driving rules, security protocols, and defensive driving techniques. Previous experience with international organizations, diplomatic missions, or UN-affiliated projects will be considered an asset.

Languages:
For this position, knowledge of English and the UN working language of the duty station is mandatory. For General Service jobs, knowledge of English and/or the UN working language of the duty station is required. The expected overall ability in the required languages is at least B2 level. Knowledge of local languages may also be beneficial.
